New Amex statement credits

I think the offer is only for the Myer gift card not the Coles Myer one.
Correct, and there are signs everywhere explaining this and the difference between the Myer card and the Coles Myer Card. Fortunately for me, the sales lady got confused, and gave me a $10 gift card per $100 Coles Myer gift card I bought :)

Westfield were adamant that they could only split each card once (so basically max $100 per gift card). I had gone in expecting to get multiple $50 cards so still a good result
Yes, same for me at Westfield, Pitt St. They were randomly asking people for ID which would have sunk me if i got asked for ID as I had a number of supplementary cards in others' names :). So be prepared to show ID if you are buying Westfield gift cards.

Thanks to Viridianne who i bumped into, for directing me as I couldn't find the counter selling the Westfield gift cards :)

I didn't buy from the 2nd Westfields to be on the safe side, and just bought DJ Gift cards which are valid for 24 months, which I hope to use at the end of year sales. Received emails from Amex for all my purchases :)

I assume, as previously, the standard Westfield Gift Card ($2.95 fee) can be used at either Coles or Woolworths. Can any one confirm this is still the case? Ta

Mrs SydneySwan and I are about to head into Sydney City on an 'Amex credit' hunting expedition. Will report back any news / issues. We have 7 cards between us so will be targeting 21 credits.

I've sent a followup email through Amex Connect for my CBA and WBC cards reference the two credits for Westfield. Annoyingly, there's no way to contact them about actual Amex cards given they've closed the secure message service so I'll wait a bit before calling them (figured I'll need to dedicate a bit of time for a phone call).

I'll report back when I hear from them.

I actually suspect they may process in a few days. I can recall something like this in the past where the system didn't automatically do it, but Amex stepped in a few days later and did a manual run of credits. Can't remember when/what it was for...

Bought 7 C-M gift cards from level 6 of Myer as they had plenty of cards. Sales people fully across the Amex offer and processed multiple transactions quickly and easily. Unfortunately they were also fully across the fact that the $10 bonus gc was for Myer cards only.

Westfield at Pitt St were also very familiar with the deal. Confirm 2 cards is the most they can split across a transaction. They did ask for ID so I showed them my driving license but they never checked the names on the Amex cards. I was 4th in queue behind a couple who had 14 cards between them so expected a long delay but the other two people only had 1 Amex each (I was unaware such people existed!). I just bought the red Westfield cards as last time they were accepted everywhere eftpos was accepted.

Some unplanned spending by Mrs Sydneyswan at Secrets SHHH used up 4 cards - no problems splitting.

I thought I would play safe for the final 3 credits by buying gc at DJs. I bought 1 * $50 from one cashier who didn't really know how to process them (had to cancel and reissue). I then went to another counter where I bought a $100 gc split across 2 cards. The sales lady called her boss over who asked for ID and scrutinised my driving licence and 2 cards before letting me purchase. She explained that apparently there are people coming in with up to 15 or 20 cards and trying to buy high value gift cards whilst only charging $50 to each card so they have been told to check ID and the cards for such potential purchasers. AFFers you have been warned!

So all 21 emails received and hopefully 21 credits in the next few days.

I had to go back today with +1 as I missed 2 cards yesterday! Unfortunately, cf to yesterday, Level 5 Myer knew that the $10 GC offer was for Myer cards only, not the Coles Myer ones I was after :(. No ID check at Westfield Pitt St or DJs today but at the latter, one of fhe Amex cards was blocked by Amex due to suspicious activities so +1 had to ring Amex to sort out! All up pretty happy with this promo. :)

So Shop Small is now capped at $50 return per card. This is inferior in total dollars to the current Vogue deal for those that reside in or near the CBDs of Sydney and Melbourne which returns $60 although the minimum outlay is 50% more at $150 compared to $100 for SS. However 3 transactions are easier and less time-consuming than 5 and Westfield, Myer, David Jones, etc. seem more comfortable splitting transaction than many SS participants. SS is still worth doing as its free money after all but it is losing its lustre.

In all honesty, the last shop small was pretty painful.

Most merchants were difficult, they wouldn't allow split payments and got funny about splitting bills at restaurants. The pharmacies were an ok option, but they are generally a lot more expensive than larger retailers anyway.

I've also got boxes of toilet paper in the roof of the garage still from last year! That seems to be the pharmac_ cheap special (and even then most got the $hits - pardon the pun - with me stocking up on their loss leader).

I agree so I let +1 do the running around :)....did a lot of Opal topups on the last day (I drove her and waited in car) but we didn't quite complete all 10 transactions per card so I'm sort of glad it is only 5 this time :)

I'm surprised at this. I am in Melbourne south east and had no issues splitting payments with merchants. Some questioned why, some already knew, but had no issues. Will have to be a little more selective this year, or increase my supp card count. Or both. Probably both!

Most smaller merchants I encountered, once explained shop small, loved the concept and some of the retail staff wanted to get into the action.

They've gotten back to me requesting receipts for the gift card purchases.

I've sent a screenshot showing the two purchases at the different Westfield merchants.

Recommend hiding the line item if it says anything that looks like 'gift card'
