New Amex statement credits

My Paypal offer is 20% rebate up to a maximum of $40. It only appears on 2 of 8 cards.

Things change. Why do you think Best & Less is part of an AMEX promotion to 15,000 people across Australia if they don't take AMEX. Get down to your local store to check rather than relying on your experiences from months or even years ago.
I've never heard of best and less and had to google locations but all this talk has made me jealous since registrations have closed :(

Has anyone tried to the the NSW-only Merivale offer to guy a gift card and get the $20 back? Merivale sells gift cards in-person at "The Bottle Shop", but interestingly, that it is not part of the venue list on the Amex offer.

Also, their T&Cs wording might exclude it "Excludes transactions where you do not spend directly at Merivale Restaurants and Bars in-person, for example purchases made through a third party establishment or third party payment processor like PayPal"... but wondering if anyone has successfully done it?
Yes. It works. Gift cards can then be spent at any Merivale location. This is advertised on the bottle shop's website. Shopkeeper was very angry when I did 24 x $40 gift cards there recently. It's a very slow process and a very small shop.

Missed the gungahlin one...i'll have to give them a call

got the paypal on 1 card and it's 2 supps. That's $120 off some bills I was about to paypal..
Given these products are so new calling may not work well. Staff at the stores I bought them at hadn't seen them before so its probable someone on the phone won't know of their existence.

I sent one of my staff to a store, and they had no idea about it. One other store I called i spoke to the manager and she said yes she has heard of them , told me about the fee, but said not till next year. So it sounds like there may of been some training or info given to higher up's in the store, and they are just beginning to be rolled out. Sound like your area got them already....lucky :D

oh cool! thanks Dr Ralph, that is good to know. Also good to know that you can buy $40 (i thought $50 was the minimum as per website), AND we get the Amex offer.

24 --> a lot of cards though haha

Interesting data point. This morning I tried to buy some HN gift cards online. There was a qty restriction of 1 on $100 cards, I was able to select 2 x $200 though. I placed two separate orders, one using cc payment and one using American Express checkout. The cc payment order was approved, the other rejected, I expected if anything it may be the other way around or both rejected.

$50 is the minimum online. But can definitely buy $40 in store.

I'd recommend going in store to buy the Harvey Norman gift cards.

I’m sure this has been asked previously so apologies but can vpay be used to buy Woolworths wish cards online at all?

Hi guys,

Two quick questions - if a retailer is listed in Shop Small on the map (but only on location) - is it reasonable to assume they are all registered or do you go by what's on the map? In this case Charles Rose (yeah, I pissed off the jeweller splitting my wife's shiny new thing across 6 cards ;P)

Secondly, if the answer is yes, who would I chase up for the credit (is there a number or email?)

Thanks

Don't know, but if they're not on the map you're at a distinct disadvantage if trying to argue for the credit.

IME Amex will deal with you for Amex-issued cards and try to fob you off for bank-issued cards. The banks don't have any clue about Shop Small, but some may give you the credit without blinking an eyelid, while others resist to the bitter end.

When the latter happened to me, Amex relented and gave me an online contact form to enquire about the credit.

American Express

The response claimed the merchant wasn't on the map (which was no longer accessible after the Shop Small period) and was ineligible, but I had kept a screenshot for just that eventuality. So they finally credited the $10, but obviously no admission or apology.

Brought an iPhone X today at Harvey Norman. Despite Apple being excluded got the email within a few minutes saying that I would receive a $100 credit for spending over $400 (which has previously been the case with Harvey Norman offers and Apple).

Purchased on my Amex Explorer for the screen insurance, and will claim the GST back under the TRS when I head to the US next month.
