New Amex statement credits

Only if you buy stuff you actually need rather than trying to max all your credits on all your AMEX cards - and yes I'm guilty, too
Quite true, but it's pretty easy to buy useful every day things from chemists, butchers etc etc. best promotion Amex has IMO. :)

Registration for the Small Shop was supposed to be open from October 28. This has not yet occurred. All that is showing is this:

'Register for Shop Small here on American Express Connect from 28 October. '

&

'
Registration commences at 00:01 (AEDT) on 28 October 2015 and ends at 23:59 (AEDT) on 30 November 2015.'

AMEX has stuffed up and not made the link available via their network.americanexpress.com site. But for those that want to register I've found a manual link:

https://offerenroll.americanexpress.com/enroll/EnrollmentSitePage?offer=ShopSmall2015

Remember it's limited to the first 100,000.

Another Harvey Norman offer has appeared for me lately. Interestingly, it's $50 back for a $300 spend on my two Amex issued cards (Platinum Edge and Qantas Discovery), but only $30 back for a $300 spend on my bank issued cards (NAB Qantas Platinum and CommBank Gold Awards).

(And yes, all four, plus two PE supplementaries, are now enrolled for Shop Small. :) )

All cards registered for Shop Small. 3 cards got the Harvey Norman offer - all spend 300, get 50 credit.

Seems like there's a few glitches happening. I was able to register via the Amex Connect site this morning (CBA-issued card) although it didn't show up in My Offers, I had to click on the Shop Small banner ad on the Amex Connect main page and registered for the offer that way. And NOW it appears under My Offers, showing that the offer has been added to the card.

I registered my 5 amex cards (and will add hubby's later today) to Shop Small. I haven't used Shop Small before (since I have only caught the 'points bug' earlier this year). So does this mean that I can go to a participating shop and do multiple transactions (1 on each registered amex card) of over $20? In other people's experience do the retailers find this suspicious or do they know about shop small? I have been thinking about how to use this promotion to my advantage...... It even makes sense to use my coughpy cards with poor earn rates, if they are $20 transactions with $10 back. How does Amex know that you haven't bought a giftcard????

1) Yes - You can split a payment across multiple cards if the merchant is willing to do so. Each card should qualify for a $10 credit. From a merchant perspective it is a pain in the backside (and remember they need to reconcile at the end of the day/week/month), but if they are quiet, and you ask nicely they will usually do it for you.

2) Generally gift card purchases are excluded from a T&Cs perspective, but in practice will still generate a credit (AmEx generally will just see an amount, not an itemised bill). NB: Many shop small merchants don't have gift card programs.

AmEx may consider some of these activities "against the spirit of the promotion", but in each case I doubt they will do anything. After all you are limited to $100 per card anyway.

FWIW I should get a few hundred dollars from Shop Small without any change to my regular behaviour. I generally try to support small businesses anyway, so I just need to remember to share the love across different cards.

If it is a shop like a newsagency - it makes it easy to split purchases into $20 purchases anyway. I'm not going to ask a retailer to split a purchase.

This promotion has opened my eyes to how many small retailers accept AMEX (perhaps the purpose of the promotion) - I always use a VISA (outside of Coles/Woolworths/petrol/restaurants/flights/priceline). No incentive to use AMEX if it is $1 for 1 point, and I get the same on VISA.

I can see some giftcard opportunities at my local stores - although it is against the spirit, I agree.

Be aware that sometimes the retailers name has been included in the list and they are not aware of it, also that some names on the list may be from last campaign and not in this one. I can see 2 local businesses, a restaurant that closed 3 months ago and the other my mechanic who has to charge 3% to cover his cost.

If you do not get the credit in say 4-5 days then let Amex know so that you get credited anyway.
