Personally have not used the car rental offers with my Amex, as there is no excess cover for vehicle damage/accidents. Normally use the Visa card that includes excess cover when the car rental is paid fully with that card.

Amex Plat gets you very good rental cover. I personally made claims with them and they were handled well.

Unfortunately my Amex Elevate card doesn’t provide car rental excess cover. And unfortunately, as many of the AFF members have experienced, it’s difficult to obtain new credit cards, once retired.

Have you tried calling Amex and asking if you can change product lines? Amex are definitely the most lenient issuer in Australia when it comes to income assessment, and if you have an existing relationship you might be able to swap cards without a formal application process.

Appreciate the tip, just changed the reward scheme from Elevate Qantas to Elevate Velocity, as I try to ween myself off QF. Will look at a change in future.
