New Amex statement credits

These offers are a bit pedestrian this festive season...
Hardly.

Independent Liquor for 30% (buy gift cards) back and recent Officeworks (again buy gift cards) offer are as good as it gets for Amazon post Smallshop world. Especially as they were available on supp cards - multiple times for the liquor offer.

Before I make a moderate detour to the Cellarbrations locations that are somewhat proximal, what kind of gift cards might I hope to find?

It varies greatly, but some discussion here:

I visited a Cellarbrations store today ( NSW) and on enquiring was told that they didn’t sell gift cards of any description.
Then went to a BottleO and they only sold BottleO GCs.
Would be interested to know what GCs people have been able to purchase and from which outlets.

Re current $30 independent liquor offer.

I tried to do 4 x $100 transactions in succession at one of the listed merchants today and was blocked by AMEX for suspected fraudulent transactions. They texted, email and then rang me about it. Suffice to say I gave it to them - especially as they should be expecting multiple transactions with a listed merchant because of this offer.

I do note that I did the same thing on Sunday and there were no issues.

What GCs are you buying @Dr Ralph?

Sounds like a pretty normal fraud mitigation measure that's easy to unblock. Repeated transactions at the same store under the PIN-less threshold is a surefire way of getting any card flagged. Most people just don't do that, even with a cashback offer, so no need to "give it" to anybody.

If this was true then it whould happen everytime there's a cash back offer. Reality is that it doesn't!

I got quite few denies for repeat purchases at the vendor machine at work, which charges the same price for drinks 😂

I've also had no luck with the Independant Liquor offer and GC's. Been to a couple of local merchants and similar to posters above the Bottle-O flat out didn't sell any and the Porters Liquor sold only Porters Liquor GC's.
