Press release from Qantas today

SYDNEY, 3 July 2008: Qantas said today it would open new, dedicated Domestic Business Class Lounges within its key airport terminals in Sydney and Melbourne in July.
Qantas Executive General Manager, Mr John Borghetti, said the new lounges would provide the airline’s Business Class customers and top tier Qantas and oneworld Frequent Flyers with an exclusive space to relax or work prior to their flight.
“Our new lounges have been purpose-built to provide space, increased privacy and a range of business services for our premium customers,” Mr Borghetti said.
Qantas Domestic Business Class Lounges will include:

quiet work suites;

computer access and complimentary wireless internet;

premium selection of hot and cold food;

barista service;

separate bathroom and private shower suites; and

lighting created by renowned Dutch design label, Moooi.
Qantas Domestic Business Class Lounges will open in Sydney on 5 July, in Melbourne by the end of July, in Canberra in October and in Perth in 2010. Qantas’ Domestic Business Class Lounge opened in Brisbane on 30 June.
Mr Borghetti said the new lounges were part of an extensive upgrade of Qantas’ domestic airport facilities.
“Qantas is the business travellers’ airline and our facilities are designed to meet their particular needs,” he said.
“The existing Qantas Club will continue to be a dedicated space for our Gold Frequent Flyers and customers with a Qantas Club membership.”
Other recently updated Qantas services include complimentary wireless connectivity in all Australian Qantas Clubs, dedicated Meeting Rooms in Sydney and Melbourne, and Qantas Web Connect workstations in gate lounges offering PCs, power charging outlets and wireless connectivity hotspots in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Woops, forgot the fact that Brisbane opened yesterday

so

Brisbane - Wed Jul 2
Sydney - Sat Jul 5
Melbourne - Late July

I am goin out to BNE to drop someone off this afternoon... gonna go check it out.

Please let us know what you think. :D

will try and get a few pics with the camera phone.

It will be "feeding time at the zoo" while I am there so it will be interesting to see how crowded the new lounge will be.

Also, I am assuming correctly that with my WP status I can access the lounge at anytime and that the 'anytime' is not restriced to QP???

The conditions aren't up on the QANTAS site yet. But my suspician is "no". The new J lounges will be like the international F lounges. No anytime access - only for those who are flying.

But it can't hurt to ask if you can have a look around I suppose.

There is a report over at FT, basically a quieter version of the QP!

The report is interesting. I'm a little disappointed too - I was hoping for something more "premium". I'm flying SYD-BNE-SYD next Monday so it will be interesting to compare both lounges. I hope that they go to a little more trouble in SYD.

I am pretty sure that acces is restricted to those travelling and that anytime access applies only to the Qantas Club

Maybe you are right - I would love to see that in writing from Qantas or on their web site!

I was at BNE midday 30 June and the J Lounge didn't look open. Maybe they have the secret entrance elsewhere.

They've thankfully taken down a glass partition opposite the QP bar to make it seem roomier though.

In thread http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...no-anytime-access-platinum-members-11190.html , the OP posted details from an email received from QF which stated

"And when flying domestically within Australia you will need to be flying that day with Qantas or Jetstar to access the new Business Lounges. "
"Domestically, if you are not flying Qantas or Jetstar you are still welcome in The Qantas Club."

Thanks for the heads up and confirmation, Dave.

OK... I can confirm that you need to be a WP/OWE and travelling that day or a J pax to enter the new lounges.

Arrived at BNE QP with my WP card (which admittedly had expired and QF havent sent me a replacement yet :evil:) ready to gain entry with my guest travelling on JQ.

Was told rules and was then offered to use the QP as I, as the WP member, was not travelling today.

QP was packed as per usual, however you can view the Jlounge through a little window from the QP and it also looked reasonably full.

My guest had never been to a QP before and couldnt believe that airports had these lounges... she thought it was heaven!! :shock: <-- actual look I gave her!

Also to add: from the little window - it looked like a slightly downgraded Chairmans Lounge... sans the 'personal touch'.

Obviously an impressionable young lady ;) !!!
