My guest had never been to a QP before and couldnt believe that airports had these lounges... she thought it was heaven!!

I recently bought first class tickets from Hong Kong for a friend's grandparents, so they could join the rest of their family in SYD for a reunion. They talked about the SQ 1st experience for the whole week, and the reunion was definitely the also-ran event... Lol...

Brisbane business lounge this morning at 5.50AM had plenty of spare seats. Lounge not quite finished yet with last part, assume showers & toilets to be completed. Breakfast food the same except there were hot pancakes with syrup. :) No Barista yet.

Same reaction from mrssimongr when she first went to an Int'l J lounge... she gets her first F lounge experience on Monday ;)++++
If she is anything like my significant other, she will love the FLounge. After her first visit, she regretted she did not take enough advantage of all that is offerred. For the next planned visit in Sept, she has ordered that we must get there at the maximum 3 hours prior to flight time, so she can really get her money's (??) worth ;).

Yes, my wife is the same. We get to the FLounge and have a nice leisurely breakfast or dinner before flying - the food is nicer and more pleasant than even J on the plane

Right so if I understand correctly, when I am flying JQ Starclass HNL - SYD - ADL I will be able to access the New SYD J lounge?

Can someone confirm?

Thanks.

If you are booked in business class for your Sydney to Adelaide flight, then you have access to the J lounge. Otherwise no. (I would be more confident if I knew how domestic star class worked)

I imagine that the flight is an extension of the HNL-SYD route, the aircraft will arrive/depart at/from the International terminal, thus making the lounge at the Dom terminal out of the question.

But, doesn't starclass book into Business for the Australian domestic leg on QF therefore lounge access (if you're not already eligible for lounge access some other way) is a given?

that would depend.
If JQ has booked you on QF metal in J for the SYD-ADL leg then yes
If you are on JQ then probably no.

I don't think any JQ Int (ie those with Star Class) fly SYD-ADL, think just BNE-SYD, CNS-SYD

Just for clarification, my StarClass bookings is

HNL - SYD - JQ4
SYD - ADL - JQ6743

JQ6743 is operated by a QF domestic service with seats in QF Business Class. I'm unsure what inventory code I am booked into.

There was an article about the new 'J' lounges (and a picture) in the Aviation section of todays 'Australian'.

Usually 'D', but in any case AFAIK you will have access.

I was in the new BNE business class lounge for about 15 minutes at 7:00am this morning.

My first impressions is that it is nothing special and not as good as all the hype that preceded it. It is smallish in size and I would hate to see it packed.

Anyway it was very quiet this morning with probably less than 10 people in there, most in suits. The bar looks the same with a well stocked fridge and self serve soft drinks. I did notice the pancakes but I wanted some yoghurt for breakfast and there was none in sight.

Also only 4 desktops, or was it 5, for internet access. I will have a closer inspection again next week.

I think I might be the first with SYD T3 J Lounge report, albeit second hand. I have a friend (QFF WP and Lifetime Gold) that was flying MEL/PER/MEL yesterday, but in order to see the new J Lounge at SYD, he diverted MEL-PER-SYD, and stayed overnight at the Ibis to see it this morning.

He called me around 11am, and said, "it's nothing special". Apparently this Saturday it's full of children who are running around and since the floors are not fully carpeted it is very noisy.

Coffee was more of the same barista coffee that you get in the SYD/MEL/BNE QPs in the morning, but at least it runs all day. Apparently the food was more of the same that you expect in the QP, with perhaps a little bit more variety (but still the same salads, sandwiches and wraps, pastrami and ham, etc.

It sounds like it's not worth me running up 1400SC per year just to get this! Definitely a case of the hype and expectations exceeding the reality.

Admittedly, this is not first hand - I'll be interested to see whether others agree that it's only marginally better than the current QP - and it will be interesting to see in the morning and afternoon peak times this week what the loads are in the QP vs the J Lounge.

Apart from the area around the food counters it is fully carpeted. It is considerably less crowded than the main lounge (Monday morning peak) and does not seem unduly noisy. Plenty of seating and PCs. It is larger than (and therefore not as intimate as) the CL but generally comparable.
