New EK lounge Melbourne

would have to be EY. there is no new ek lounge
That casts doubt on the following:
... The old EK lounge does seem to concur with that with a sign on the door saying that it is now permanently closed.
Maybe someone going Int from MEL can check. I wont be back through for another 3 weeks.

Does any one have the contact phone number for Emirates Lounge?

Have just phoned Emirates who have advised that they have not shut the Melbourne Lounge nor have they relocated or opened another lounge at Melbourne Airport. :D

Be interesting to see if this reflects reality based on the post re sign showing permanently closed and a new one opened.

Again really weird, not only was there a sign on the door (Forgot to take a picture!) but the First Class Lounge Attendant even said that they have moved. That's why I posted on here, hoping one of you guys might have noticed something else.

Ok well we have a definitive answer have spoken to Melbourne Airport Authority and Emirates HAVE opened a new lounge right next door to the old lounge so same escalators etc. It faces West looking directly at the runway and control tower and has more capacity than the old one.

Hopefully that clears this up :D

Not rreally. There didn't appear to be an extra door there on the 27th...

LOL, I still don't quite get it. Won't be flying for a while either so hopefully some people can show us this in PHOTOS.

I don't see how a whole new lounge has been built and opened in secret in basically the same location with no announcements.... bizarre

It thickens look forward to some one getting photos and more details of its location :D. So EK phone staff don't know Airport staff say its the same location but newer and bigger lounge when it appears not to be. Seems every one is confused LOL.

Wonder who will be the first to get pictures and map it wont be me as not flying out till later in the month.

Interesting to see this thread now that I am back in Melbourne. I flew Emirates MEL/AKL on 30 December. I can very much confirm that there is a new Emirates Lounge in Melbourne. The day I flew was the first day it was open, and indeed is up escalators near Gate 10, facing west with a view of the runway and control tower. Certainly is an impressive lounge with approximately double the capacity of the old lounge. Most of the seating is in groups of 4 seats, which could easily be 2x2. Seats are in brown leather. Whilst it still has the feel of an Emirates Lounge it is considerably more stylish and modern that the lounge it replaced.

Thanks for the pics. Do you by any chance recall the lounge opening hours?

Didn't see the opening hours, but it was open at 6am in the morning. :)

Is it up the new set of escalators? Or the same set that they used to share with QF F?

Thanks for the photos - is the food variety any better? Anything new the previous lounge did not have?

Ok, in the interests of science I will conduct a full review this Saturday. :)
I hope you appreciate the sacrifices I make.

Oh look, an envelope!

Ric_melb was the dining alacart or still buffet?

Much appreciated JessicaTam. Can I ask if you can check if they still have those mini samosas? They are the best I have tried at any lounge :)

Now the big question is what will happen with the old lounge?

Could this be an opportunity for QF to bring its J lounge upstairs next to the F lounge and provide natural daylight to those poor buggers using the J lounge?
