Welcome! The good thing is you have come here with plenty of time to get organised. As long as you can get the points together you shouldn’t have any issues booking what you want with a bit of thought.

You won’t be able to go on QF metal to those destinations, but that’s not a problem. There are approx 8 airlines (or combinations of those) that you can use to get to Europe. Often with much better availability than Qantas. Such as CX/MH/BA.

Can I ask where you got 480,000 points from? As don’t believe that’s correct. You can view all the tables here:
Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Flying with Qantas and Jetstar - Using Qantas Points

128,000 points per person one way MEL-Europe in business on QF/EK. So 256k as a couple. 512k return.

Alternatively on other OneWorld partners (like CX/MH/AY/JL, etc.) you will be up for 139,000 points per person one way MEL-Europe in business. So 278k as a couple. 556k return.

As an example: Could do QF to SIN/HKG/NRT and then change to AY/CX/JL from there to Europe. Or could just do CX/MH/JL all the way through.

Next tip is definitely book them as one ways to get your availability locked in. I.e. don’t wait for the return trip to open up before booking your outbound.

Unfortunately QF points are terrible for fuel fines, so expect to pay $1000-$1500 per person return for the privilege of using your points. The majority of this cash goes to Qf’s bottom line.

Any questions more than happy to help.
