New Look Qantas Web Site Launched

To be honest, it surprises me a lot to say this, but of all the airline websites in the world, Qantas is one of the best. It has a lot of information there (and most of it is correct), its booking engine is fairly good and robust, it loads surprisingly quickly and yet still looks OK when rendered on most browsers. (I'm using the latest Firefox on Windows 7 with AdBlockPlus).

Did they copy CX's website?

I'm really just thankful they did not copy SQ's...

Looks ok, only suggestions are to tone down the red in the menus to a darker shade and reduce the amount of white a bit in general. There is too much red which makes it look like a vodafone website!;)

Agree... Red is very Red!

I am the first one to admit that I'm majorly pissed each time the resetting of booking information happens to me and don't really understand why they can't fix that little issue... Besides that though, the QF website is one of the best ones around and I'm happy to see they haven't f&%#ed it up with their little cosmetic change just now... Most airlines are much much worse, SQ anyone?

As ever so often with all the rage against Qantas: There's surely lots to criticize QF for but their website is certainly not it.

I've actually noticed that the multi-city tool has been a bit better lately in remembering my last search, even if changing a destination. While, yes, it does clear out the cities below and makes the flights disappear, I've found it to still remember the dates. It's somewhat helpful because I usually know exactly which cities I've plugged in before, but dates always need triple-checking, so I'd rather it remember them as opposed to nothing! :)

However, on the multi-city issue, the calendar button is gone when selecting dates!! :@ ... I know you can still select the month and then date from the drop-down lists, but I much prefer to do it visually... it saves time, and having the calendar in front of me just helps when calculating timezones... there are still calendar buttons on the main one-way and return booking types, so I hope they'll put it back on the multi-city page soon! :)

I like that my QF emails have Platinum coloured banners, it would be good if the log-in pages were similar. I think the glare from the Red and White colour is too much.
It might grow on me but I doubt it :(

Hmmm.... I tried to pick my seat on a travel agency booked ticket and was told that I would have to start calling in now to do this.

But, i havent had this problen on any of the 30+ previous flights.

Could it be the new site? Anyone else have this problem?

They still haven't listed the QP at Sydney T2 on the main "Airport Lounge" location page. It does however appear on the map when you click "Sydney Domestic T3" but it doesn't describe its location.

.. edit typo ..

QF site is OK but does have a few annoyances (the booking engine dates resetting when changing destinations one of them), and surprisingly the much maligned SQ website is now as quick as or quicker than QF for some simple bookings (SQ falls down for complex bookings) I think the QF could benefit from is using the same form to book with points as it does for cash. This seems to be a trend on a number sites including BA, UA, and SQ to name a few. It would also be nice to have a wider range of one world ports available for award bookings and/or access to more one world partner inventory online (the 6000 pts penalty is a bit harsh IMHO).

SQ is awful, and I swear NZ is so bad it makes the baby Jesus cry. It looks awfully pretty but using it is pretty awful.

Pretty sure that both CX and QF are using customised versions of the Amadeus web products as their respective booking engines. That will make them look similar!

Lets just hope this new web site will be followed by a real iPhone app and even better an Android app. Can't understand how Qantas has a cool Windows Phone app but the stale old FF app for the iPhone and nothing for Android which is now outselling the iPhone. Unless of course Microsoft paid for the app. No, that could never happen! /sarcasm/

Definitely a case of you get what you pay for!
Having moved from WP7 to iPhone it is one of the few things I miss

Yep, I have this issue too. I have three flights booked and can't seem save my seat selection for any. I have tried via PC and iPad, neither work.... Hopefully I can get a bit further up at the kiosk tomoz.

Cheers
Adam.

I like the changes. They have taken a good website and made it much better.

Now if they would only make the Jetstar flights disappear from the Qantas website I will be much happier. Or at least a check box to say you want to see Jetstar flights and default it to exclude Jetstar flights....

Has anyone else noticed that when booking flights, when you get to Step 4 "Review Your Flights", they've taken away the ability to click on the total and have it show the breakdown in base fare and taxes?? This is a big backwards step. I used that feature all the time to check that I was booking the correct fare type (referenced to E/F base fare). There are big differences between fares even in the same classes and this gave me piece of mind that I was booking the correct fare basis.

Why would they remove this??

Please RedRoo - get IT to bring this back.
