Again you seem to be confusing the comment. It wasn't about liking or not liking. It was about the fact that it works best on a 23" desktop screen and not a highly portable computer that Qantas' most valued customers are more likely to use. Working well on a desktop and not working on a netbook suggests a big lack of objective with the design. Apparently Qantas employ smart people, which makes it strange that this design isn't best suited to the needs of travelers.

Feel free to twist that anyway you wish, I realise that you cannot handle people pointing out the negatives of Qantas.

Amazing that you know the needs of travelers (plural and all-encompassing) better than Qantas. Why aren't you working in the travel industry and making squillions?

Also, I find it highly amusing that whenever someone dares to challenge your opinions/tosh regarding Qantas, that they are automatically braindead, numbskull QF drones, incapable of any intelligent or critical thought.
 
My comment wasn't about people who use netbooks at all. Serfty responded to a post I made about not everyone having 23" monitors, my retort was that nor does everyone use 10.5" netbooks. Clutching at straws much?

Also, not sure on what evidence you base the claim that "travelers are the most likely people to use netbooks"? I'm happy to believe you with some kind of evidence, but didn't you post this the other day...?

The only straw clutching is yours. I challenge you to provide the evidence to disapprove my statement that travellers are more likely to use a netbook that a 23" desktop computer. I've looked around the various lounges, airport gates, trains etc and I've never seen anyone with a 23" desktop on their lap.

FFS I made the point about the 23" monitor because other posters were claiming the new MMB site wouldn't render/work suitably on desktop computers. My experience is that it does...and on various sized screens!

I don't have to provide evidence to disprove (not disapprove by the way) your statement. Just like in law, the burden of proof rests with the complainant, not with the defendant.

Are you trolling or just totally and utterly incapable of understanding logical argument?

It doesn't take a genius to know travellers are rarely going to use 23" desktop computers on the move. That you are suggesting otherwise suggests something other that critical thought. But I'll accept your implicit claim to have undertaken a critical analysis of the needs of travellers. Your right Brett, people do need a website that works best on a massive screen desktop computer when they travel.

Surely you're kidding right? I'll put it in dot points so that it's simple for you to understand.

Once again, for the record:

- 23" monitor comment intended only to refute claims by other posters that site does not render on desktop PCs. You have conveniently chosen to neglect the fact I also mentioned I had viewed it on a 15" screen, which BTW is the device I carry when travelling.

- I never made any claims about knowing the needs of travelers. Your comments, however implied that you had a better understanding than QF of what "people who fly a lot" might or might not be doing, yet you refuse to put forward evidence to support these claims. When you do it it's fine, when others do it they are spouting tosh. Hypocrisy much?

- Of course looking at the QF MMB site on a 23" screen whilst travelling is unlikely...UNLESS, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU ARE USING THE MAC PCs PROVIDED IN THE QF LOUNGES (21.5" I believe)

- I never denied that "people use small portable computers when they travel" because quite obviously they do. Serfty is an example of that. My point however, is that QF will have analytics at their disposal (available to any company or individual website through Google) about the browsers and types of devices by which their site is being accessed. Maybe, just maybe these statistics are telling them that netbooks AREN'T the most popular option.

Sadly, I do not doubt that Qantas have some statistics. And they would not include any data from me as I block such information.

The new page works on a 15" monitor - and better than previous one having the nav. menu, however, for me the MMB page of 18 months or so ago worked even better.

With those nav links to the left, navigating the new pages is not as bad as it first seemed, although those words are not obvious as being links.

On my part I intend to write a GM script to summarise the data up top (or perhaps as part of the floating Nav. menu) so I don't have to deal with screen size limitations.
 
Ok... I sort of do this thing for a living, and here are my thoughts:

1. The current most popular browser screen is 1366x768. This is typically 13"-15" wide screen display, like what I'm using right now (13" MacBook Air). This category (13-15" display, wide or not) happens to be 99% of laptops I see people use these days anywhere (including travelers in lounges). When I open MMB on my laptop (not a netbook, a proper, average laptop), I see not much information on the first screen. I even tried zooming out to 50% and still don't see much. Scrolling down I don't see much at the same time either. The old MMB already has too much whitespace (doesn't even fit much in my 30" monitor but I still see my flight details without scrolling), this one adds even more whitespace...

2. I can say it does look beautiful. But for this kind of thing, usability is more important that beautiful. When I open MMB, I usually want to know: my flights details (number, booking class, destination) and my seat allocation. These are still there (you need to click on the flight to pop up details) but separating flight details and seat allocation doesn't really make sense...

3. The left nav menu seems to not look "clickable". It relies on hover, which as we know doesn't exist on tablets and phones either...

4. Since QF is in save-all-the-money-we-can mode, I can only see this change is done solely to increase the add-on revenue (baggage, seat selection, insurance, etc.). It really shows.

Seriously dude, if a lot of people whinge, it's possible (not always) that they do for a good reason. For one, I don't trust "experts" when they don't perform. In this change... it's not super bad but quite bad in terms of usability. I see myself using CheckMyTrip more after this :P
 
Just took a look at my LAX-MEL booking. I get a big warning at the top to check my baggage allowance. In the baggage section I'm shown as having no included bags. And under passenger details it lists my AA and QF FF numbers even though only one should now be attached to the booking...
 
One thing which I have also found is that none of the bookings show the flight number. That is ridiculous !!!
This is one of the first things the CSR asks for (after the booking ref) when ringing for any issues/changes etc.
Qantas I.T need to fix this ASAP !

When they say this to me I respond:

"That's all in the reservation - you should be able to see that or is your computer playing up today?"

They respond:

"Oh I'm terribly sorry but I have to ask you for security purposes"

Dam ... just noticed this ... so to see the flight numbers I need to click each segment to see the flight number.

Ok that is cough.
 
I don't mind it - you can use the menu on the side to navigate to what you want to see so you don't have to see all their annoying ads if you don't want to. I like the way all the info about the flights and transit times is set out.

I agree. The new layout is rubbish.

Extra steps to see what was in one place before:
Flight number - click on each flight
Seat number - scroll down to a different list of flights and click again

On my 8" iPad is is woeful, and on my 11" MBA it is not much better.

Oh, and it looks like there are no meals on any of my flights. I guess I am getting used to that.

To be fair, QF has simply failed.

Also it's not showing me my additional baggage allowance being a WP... I do get an extra 20KG being WP and flying EK right? :shock:
 
It's a very bad design.

and it still hasn't fixed the problems of the old version.

I've been trying to put in an upgrade request for an upcoming flight for weeks. It still says "The system is experiencing difficulties".

You need to ring for upgrade requests. Don't stuff around with the website.

For most upgrade requests, save for a stock-standard, Vanilla, garden variety domestic ones (sometimes international), the QF website has been broken since they went and stuffed around with points required levels last year. Can't believe they still haven't fixed that!
