New Lounges news and speculation

Wouldn't it do wonders for her image to the common brits as well as Brit-Irish relations if she flew back to Luton/Stansted on Ryanair? ;)

Checkin counter: "We're sorry your highness but you'll have to check your crown and scepter, we can't allow sharp objects on board."

Why? Is she planning on visiting the Lounge?

Ha! Quick - get out the Gin and Dubbonet :)

You would hope it would be open for that - I can just see Her Majesty collecting her $20 coupons at the temporary desk ;)

I have a Mango Boost Juice for ER-II? ER-II?

But will they let her corgis into the lounge?

Come on you are just being silly. Everyone knows that animal pick-up/drop-off is just to the right once you exit the terminal ;)

Could you see HM on a VA domestic flight? She's in Ireland right now isn't she - first time in many a year for a British Monarch? Wouldn't it do wonders for her image to the common brits as well as Brit-Irish relations if she flew back to Luton/Stansted on Ryanair? ;)

PS: Don't take offence - there are few who love Her Maj as much as I do :)

Would sharp objects also include to tools, such as Prince Phillip?

Just can't take anything seriously around here can we

I'm making it an annual event for myself, spending the Monday in a DJ lounge then taking a DJ flight, Last year was MEL, this year will be MEL again, next year something else (SYD??)

After reading the online article in Australian Business Traveller, the biggest annoyance would be going through security after visiting The Lounge in MEL. Airside lounges are the preferred option and from this article below, MEL might get a VIP-Lounge screening lane.

Article here...

Much life QF's regional network, or the ones l have experienced, ROK, KTA and HBA...(HBA isn't that regional, LOL)

The lounge has been there since the day it opened and from what i read (it was before my time) the AN one was there too. The VIP screening line is already in operation according to some reports but it would be nice for them (who i assume are Melbourne airport in the case) to eventually get around to reconfiguring the screening - actually improving the whole terminal - so as to solve this.

...and I was so excited by all the staff members telling me that 19th May was the day :(
:)

Me too Misha, I even delayed travel to be departing on the morning of the 19th at 7:15, hoping to catch some exclusive snaps to post online, but alas, the usual temporary desk was there..... But the lounge angel was hopeful ( with a little pressing, she said that this was based on her observation of some workers earlier that day had left with thier power cords wrapped around thier tools.... "like you do when you've finished a job" )

The site boards were still up and blocking the entrance.... Hopefully it will be open for a sticky beak on Friday.....

I've got a feeling, that Virgin are pushing this. Wouldn't suprise me if we see a reconfig so that the lounge is inside the sterile zone.

Yes, the lounge has been their for a long time and is the only way to service both piers of departure gates in MEL, it was my favourite AN lounge in the days when AN where showing QF how to treat frequent flyers, and yes the VIP lane is in operation during the week and was there two weeks ago when I was passing through.

Sydney lounge new menu items .... Starting today ...
Arrived via the new kerb side checkin.. Quickly admitted and upgraded to 1D to MEL by the lounge angel... Through security and in the lounge inside 2 mins.. Fabulous... It's only 1:30 so the afternoon menu options look like this-

Much nicer salad / sandwich bar selection, tomato soup and fancy bread selection in baskets..

The snack addition now has fresh popcorn(a little stale for my liking) and fantastic little biscuits... Mmmm little biscuits.... Unfortunately the rumored full bar is not up and running yet but here's hoping.

Will be very interesting to see reviews from AFFs passing through a dinner time... Great impression from keen side checkin.... BTW do they hire different security for this entry? There actually nice, polite and helpful... Great job...

Looks good, but to me popcorn seems a little trashy.

Totally agree... If your going to have it make it the air popped and flavored ones.... At least they stay fresh.. Maybe even lolly gobble bliss bombs? Would be nice...

One vote here for salted air popped popcorn. Simple, filling, tasty and easy on the waist line. Im in china right now and craving it. All the bloody popcorn here has gratuitous sweet cough in it!

I am a bit suprised to see popcorn too. Personally, I can't stand the smell of Salt & Vinegar chips. So glad to see them go... But popcorn in a lounge seems a tad strange. I'll have to try it before I say anything further.

I'm assuming that the menu will change constantly, so maybe it won't be hanging around for too long?

OOL-SYD Rtn on Wed, so I'll give both the new OOL lounge (;)) and the new SYD food selection a try!

I'm glad DJ have kept the Lindemans Early Harvest. A slightly lower alcohol content, but a nice drop regardless, is a thoughtful touch I think.

Popcorn!.........I'll pass on that one

Well I liked the popcorn - had two bowls! :)

The other stuff looked nice but I didn't try any. There was an empty space next to the food which looked just about right for a cutting board of nice cheeses. Hope to see those next time..

Well I was in the SYD lounge today (at 6pm) and the pizza/pies weren't there but everything else was - including new wines and the muffins (YUM - it was hard to stop at one).

I much prefer the new cheeses to the old cubes, but alas the water-thins were quite horrible - though the seeded crackers were a nice change.

It was a shame that I actually missed my flight (confused dept times) so after they put me on a new one (gotta love that Gold card) I only had some 10 minutes to skull my wine and swallow the muffin ;)

Bring on melbourne!
