Regarding the popcorn, The Lounge DOES have a cinema, of sorts... ;)

Not anymore. It's been transformed into meeting rooms. Which is a shame, because it was a nice place to get some peace and quiet during busy lounge hours. (To be fair, it looks like it was removed partially to make room for the premium entry, which is well worth the sacrifice ;))

ETA: I was speaking of Sydney of course. Melbourne also had/has a cinema - not sure what's happening with that one and all its giant beanbags!

Thanks for the update, 1D.

If I want to put the popcorn to good use, I guess my cinema experience will be confined to my laptop and headphones... I wonder if it will look strange eating popcorn while engrossed by my 17 inch screen? (I usually push popcorn into my mouth, three or four at a time, and at rapid intervals.) :D

I'm not the only one that looked at that bowl filled with popcorn and thought "Thats not nearly enough!!" :p

For a limited time only, the Virgin Australia lounges in MEL and SYD will be open to Qantas Gold or Platinum members flying Virgin:

Exclusive: Virgin Australia opens Sydney and Melbourne lounges to Qantas Frequent Flyers - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Even Qantas gold and platinums who are travelling with The Red Ro out of Melbourne will still be welcome to check out the lounge on a private escorted tour, Daley said.
"I've asked our Melbourne Lounge team to allow any QF Gold or Platinum member who is travelling with Qantas and who wishes to see our Lounge, to be given that opportunity and we will escort them around. It wouldn't be possible for them to sit and use the facilities instead of using Qantas', but it's a chance for them to see our facilities and for us to showcase the lounge."

Elegant maneuver - love it!

I just posted this somewhere else, how very cheeky of them. Upon telling Misha, he was quite angry...

Hang on - you texted me saying they would have access  - not an escorted tour - I actually quite like that. It's very cheeky - sort of "look at how good it is. you can look, but don't touch" ...it's kind of like cheap, late-night naughty TV in Europe, after a 5 minute teaser: you want more you gotta pay for it

If it had been an open access though - looking at the new lounge it would be completely inundated with those marsupials .... we don't want that.... it's time for us VA-loyalists to look down our noses at everyone else ;)

Oh, sorry. Didn't I explain?

If flying on a VA ticket, QFF Gold and Platinums, cau use the lounge.

If on a QF ticket, they get a tour of the lounge.
