New Project Sunrise test flight: Sydney to London over the South Pole in an A380

Playing with the "measure distance" tool on Google Maps, I can't get a route from SYD-LHR that goes anywhere near Antarctica without it being > 20000km, significantly longer than the A380's range afaik.
The A380 range is 14800. It is certified to fly on 3 engines. If you only use 3 engines at a time during the flight, and rotate them across the 4, you can increase the range by 4/3. 14800 * 4/3 = 20000km.

Not sure why Matt posted the south pole route though. It's the north pole route that will be used according to this article.
