New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

Seems to me that a walk from emerald City down to row 24 might generally provide more immediate 'relief'.

I've noticed on the 388 in economy often there are large queues at the lavatories around row 64 while at the same time shorter on no queues at those behind row 88 (there's 4 at each location).

The formatting wasnt great on my ancient work boat anchor, but looking at those numbers (thanks) it seems Y is ~ 20% worse ratio, the rest are mostly worse compared to other airlines (but not by a huge amount).

In between waiting for sims to finish and drafts to come back to me with comments, I managed to scratch up these figures (using seatguru.com except for QF where I used the QF website; sorry if the numbers are a bit off).

Thanks for that - interesting

Looks like QF is really pushing the P W:Y limit

On my only A380 J flight (old config) I noticed that there would be people queued for one toilet but the toilet lights were green suggesting that at least one of the 4 were empty

Agree people don't always look on the other side or behind them.
On anatol's math I would say J 3, W 1, Y 8 - from my read the upstairs toilet is Y, PE will share the 2 rear of J.

that reconfiguration is why lots of us are choosing business class with other airlines and typical of q.cough... i got pissed off with the antics of qantas ailine and thier crewing someyears ago and now refuse to fly it.... my staff know just not to book me qantas or if it comes to that british airways either with their stupid rear facing seats... there are still a number of horizontal seats in airlines which are much more offordable than the main stream airlines...when you get emirates putting 10 seats accros in economy versus 9 across on other airline in 777's you have to wonder what makes them premium airlines... ... i dont really care about the food and i dont drink but i do like to sleep so flat seats and quick bording and offloading are much more important to me..... not surprised about the proposed liason between emirates and q cough theyre peas in a pod conning us int thinking theyre first rate when they definatly are not ..

I'm new to this and have to say that the reconfiguration seems utterly bizarre. Had 2 380 trips so far, J from SIN - LHR and F from LAX - SYD on a round the world trip last Christmas visiting friends and family in the UK and US. Very impressed with both trips and now have a fondness for all things 380. Doing a return SYD - HKG in a weeks time and return SYD - LHR in Dec 12 / Jan 13 and all still showing old configuration 380 but I guess this could change right up to departure. Will be interested to see if a reconfigured cabin changed my opinion but I don't envisage so. I'm after comfort on the flight and all the extra gimmicks i.e. lounge, bar etc. are not what I am travelling for. Think the toilet status will be the one to make it or break it for me!

welcome sexeebear... nice spelling... you claim not to have flown qf for a number of years, so what do you have to add about the old or new qf configuration.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but one of the toilets that is going is the only large toilet in J that you can change in. It's the disabled version. I hope they're changing one of the toilets that's staying to a large version. Otherwise we'll be doing all sorts of damage trying to change into and out of our pyjamas in a smaller toilet. I can't see it happen because there isn't enough room to expand the toilets.

I've said before that everything QF is doing to turn around QFi is a negative to passengers. How will more people abandoning QF help turn around profits?

Had the new configeration on QF 12 on the 20th July, first all must say if you are in Y+ the exit row at 24 has more than ample space even for those of a tall build.
As for the toilets at the front of Y+ , they are a common with the J class so through a curtain but on a full flight ex LAX no significant delays in waiting for a free toilet.

I haven't flown this new reconfiguration, but as I mainly fly LH business I don't like it, although its not the end of the world.. I don't like the QF J seats though.

Economy gets upper deck for WP/high status which is good if flying LH economy
Premium Economy no real change, just moved forward. Same number of exit row seats from what I can see?
Business class reduction in seats, seemed low before? And in my experience the toilets were busy enough as it was..
First no change

Hi sexeebear

Which airlines do you fly with?

<...>

EH

From the looks of his one other post, China Southern and Korean Air...

A line for the toilet is probably my biggest annoyance when flying.. It's one of the reasons I pay for J.

Very sad that Qantas still charge premium prices but don't provide the little things that matter.

You don't "enhance" F/J

Was - 1 toilet per 18 people in J
Now - 1 toilet per 25 people as J/Y+ share it... Might not sound like much but before "bed time" and in the mornings there is sure to be a queue. An extra 5 people can be a 20 min wait! Change into/out of PJ's, clean teeth etc etc.

Appears not to be the case, although one toilet in J is "Handicapped accessible" it's not large..

The Y toilet on the upper deck appears to be the larger one on the QF seat map

The largest toilet I have been in is SQ A380 in J, right up the front! So much space in there.....

Just grabbed the seats maps to check this.

Old config

Four toilets (3B and 1H) in galley section between Emerald City and the rest of J. Pax in row 25 Have to walk forward eight rows to use the facilities.
Two toilets in whY+ (2B)

New Config

Two toilets (2B) at back of Emerald City. One H and One T at back of J - curtained off from whY+
One B in the whY section

Seems like the worst off will be whY+ as they are curtained off from both sets of loos.

In J I can't see it being to bad.

My impression and from reading here is that Y+ get to use the 2 rear J toilets, they can't share the 1 toilet with Y....

So the 4 toilets are J/Y+ I think....

The seat maps definitely show a curtain around the toilets - same as the curtain between whY+ and whY

The OP (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....80-reconfiguration-what-40545.html#post631316) specifically mentions the sharing of these two lavatories:
...
...And the UPPERDECK

  1. [*]A reduction from 72 to 64 seats in Business.
[*]The Premium Economy cabin moves forward and increases to 35 seats.
[*]The introduction of an Economy cabin in the aft section of the Upper Deck with 30 new Recaro seats.
[*]Two lavatories relocated from the Upper Deck Business galley to the aft of Business.
[*]The above lavatories become shared between Business and Premium Economy....

So consistent with moa999's correction, the revised ratios for the new config are:
Code:
[B][U]Aircraft Pax Y Pax W Pax J Pax F WC Y WC W WC J WC F P:W Y P:W W P:W J P:W F Remarks [/U][/B]
QF 388 (new) 371 35 64 14 8 1* 3* 2 46.38 35.00 21.33 7.00 * W = 2 share with J

That said, if I were in W, I'd be tempted to try both the shared-J lavs as well as the one a few rows back in UD Y.

I guess we should wait for the first few field reports to come through to really see the effect of the change.

Although it's one of the highest - if not the highest - pax:toilet ratio in the world, I don't think it's a complete disaster. Unless one day QF decide to feed a really funky curry to all of the J and W pax, in which case that would be a real problem / disaster:!:

Personally, unless I'm in F, I always try my hardest to only use the toilet outside of any typical rush times. That guarantees not having to wait, and usually means you can use the toilets when they are in a state which is less... ahem... "spoilt".

The large toilet that used to be the accessible toilet still exists for those passengers who require it. The wall in between the two rear toilets can fold away to create a larger toilet (just like on the A330)

It very very rarely has to be done.
