Heads (48B/C) or Tails (35J/K)???? - Flight changed to new config... Seen the pics in this post which has made the choice harder. Which one shall I pay $160 for as I'm a struggling NB????

If you're travelling as a pair 35J/K is probably better, as someone will most likely take 48A.
48 will probably be quieter, but 35 more private. I would go upper deck.

A bit O/T here...

I thought J gets pre-meal drinks, usually with the standard issue almonds (and sometimes cashews) by Santos snack supplies. Maybe it's a time dependent or something else factored in. For example, I'm sure I've had the experience on domestic (except for short flights) that J gets a pre-meal drink. I've also had it on Trans-Tasman services.

my comment was only about my limited experience on an A380, in keeping (kind of) with the A380 config topic. Domestic J I've always had a drink first.

Thumbs up to QF for sorting this out. They amended this policy/procedure much quicker than I expected.

REVISION A380
A380R 22 CREW COMPLEMENT WORK POSITIONS Background:
Based on feedback from you and our customers we’re making changes ...... The process disturbed customers seated in First and caused significant distraction for the CSM during a very busy time.
Policy:

I continue to fly QF in the hope they turn the corner, while at the same time have flown DJ enough to keep my comped DJWP just in case - and when I see posts like this is does make me wonder. How can an airline continue to make decisions which seem to have zero thought put in?

Within a day of this process being posted on this site, all of the reasons given for now removing it (plus more) had been raised. 3 wide in J trans-con any one? Examples of how to make priority boarding work (with photos from around the world) and with only one reader (DJ always vs. QF 744). I'm sure there are more.

Hopefully the important decisions, such as how much fuel to load on the planes, is given more thought!

I can confirm that 48B/C did not get the special treatment on QF127 on Thursday 2nd August. I was all prepared to duck for the flying bread rolls and nothing!! I would recommend these seats for the short run, I would prefer to keep the dollars (apart from the $80 per seat) and points for the longer London trips. Fortunately for us 48A was blocked and remained that way due to a 2/3 full plane. If you can get 48B/C I suspect 48A will be blocked until it is absolutely needed as the stewardess was stood there until all passengers were boarded. Next to no movement around us, only the odd steward(ess) between F and Y class and that was infrequent! Fingers crossed for QF128 next Thursday!!

No surprises the 48ABC special boarding process has been stopped. This is the latest advice given to crew:

REVISION A380
A380R 22 CREW COMPLEMENT WORK POSITIONS Background:
Based on feedback from you and our customers we’re making changes to the ‘Introducing the A380R’ guide. The changes effect the Economy boarding process (48ABC) at M2L and the service flow for Premium Economy / Upper Deck Economy breakfast and supper services.
Boarding requirements for M2L at row 48:
Originally M2LP escorted customers seated in 48ABC to the Upper Deck Business Lounge when they boarded the aircraft. This was so as not to disrupt the flow of boarding or cause congestion at door M2L due to the close proximity of row 48 to the door. The process disturbed customers seated in First and caused significant distraction for the CSM during a very busy time.
Policy:
Customers seated in 48ABC (LHS) are no longer required to board the aircraft last or for M2LP to escort them to the Upper Deck Business Lounge. These customers can now board the aircraft within the normal customer flow and take their seats.
Service Flows
The service flows for Premium Economy and Upper Deck Economy outlined in the ‘Introducing our A380R’ guide have now changed. The changes are as follows:
Supper:
It's no longer necessary to offer the after-takeoff tray of Champagne, juice and water to our Premium Economy customers prior to Supper.
Start meal tray delivery in Premium Economy prior to meal tray delivery in Upper Deck Economy
Breakfast:
Deliver the Upper deck Economy breakfast and collect meal trays prior to turning the lights up in Premium Economy for the start of the Premium Economy breakfast service

For example, I'm sure I've had the experience on domestic (except for short flights) that J gets a pre-meal drink. I've also had it on Trans-Tasman services. On the other hand, my only other experience on QF J is BNE-HKG on the 333: that one I think may have had no pre-meal drink, but rather they took your order and when your tray was presented the drink was ready on the tray. (This is now recalling from memory so this could be wrong - note carefully!) This was also a supper service (damn short flight for sleep, so probably a good thing!)

You'd think that on longer flights, especially where the meal is not supper (viz. lunch or dinner), a pre-meal drink service in J should be standard. After all, what else do they do whilst waiting for all the meals to heat up? (Actually, don't answer that.......)

Perhaps milehighclub can confirm what is the standard service for J in this case...

Only Lunch and Dinner services have a bar service before your get your tray. It has been that way for about 9 years or so.

There's a reasonable possibility that I'll be doing a drop off and pick up of a couple of aircraft in Manila in the next week or so. If I get the chance I'll take the GoPro on a walk around the cabin on both aircraft......

Thanks - considering they have changed the boarding procedure. I'll go 35J/K.

Thanks jb747 would be good to get a look at the inside :)

I was in QF127 on Saturday. The Row 48 boarding procedure was in place as I saw a couple being escorted to and from the upstairs lounge. Interestingly, they were allowed to walk back to their seats with Champagne in hand...

Hope the missus does not read this, she will be ropable as I had bigged up the Row 48 experience for QF to not follow through.

I didn't seen an Y pax paraded through F on QF1 yesterday. Having said that I checked expertflyer and it was showing 48C occupied with A and B blocked. No sign of the occupant of 48C whilst disembarking at LHR, so presumably he/she disembarked before/with the first F pax.

If I have to fly Y long haul I think 48C will be my seat of choice. With a plat shadow I think it will be a pretty decent seat!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone comment on whether 36J/K have limited recline? Hard to tell from the pictures and Seatguru doesn't say anything. Looks like they could be cosy with guilt-free recline as a bonus.

They should have as much recline as any other economy seat.

Remember, with the newer WHY seating, the base slides forward when reclining as the seat tilts back; so the top of the head rest does not move as far as it would for similar recline on the older style seats.

I travelled Y+ on the new config ex LAX, and whilst the curtain seperates Y+ from the toilets ar the rear of J, there is nothing to stop you going through the curtains and using the toilets and I wasn't told anything to the contrary and no others from Y+ were turned back.

I was in Y+, arriving this morning in Sydney on QF2. Curtain was closed at the rear on J, but kept open on the Y+ side for the 1st half of the flight (then it was closed from both sides). Noone was turned away from bathroom. I expect that except for the fancier toilet seat covers and hand lotion, no one would have known it wasn't a regular bathroom. I actually found the wait shorter than in the previous configuration.

On a flight to LAX out of Australia I would spend 10 minutes in the bathroom. It is the few who disappear there for 30 minutes to do a pommie wash who are the problem for those waiting for a green light to show. It applies in every class so some people are quite inconsiderate across all classes of travel.

Inconsiderate - some not by choice...

I'd be about the same in total.

Change to PJ's just after take-off
Toilet & Clean teeth after dinner, but then drink more Bailey's....
Wake up, before the masses, toilet and clean teeth and change into fresh clothes
Sometimes - One final visit and clean teeth & toilet before landing, but the lines are usually big and the bathrooms not so fresh at this stage of the flight.....
