New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

I once spent 45min in a washroom, and it definitely was not by choice. Let's just say that if there were another pax or 2 who had the similar needs, the queue for the facilities would be massive.

Now experienced all classes on an A380 thanks to some sneaky bargaining on my part. Over the last week I got a little frustrated with the seat plan in Y for last nights QF128 HKG - SYD arriving this morning. Paid for exit row 79G/H only to see 50C become available so nabbed that in the hope 50B became available, expert flyer saying seat was still blocked. Got delayed on an inbound DragonAir flight to HKG giving me little time to sort the seating (and no mobile to call Qantas). Got to Qantas desk at HKG to find we were in 50C and 79G. 79H was now filled and 50A/B had a couple in. Wasn't impressed but remained a true Geordie only for the kind Qantas employee to give me a pair of Y+ tickets. Found Y+ to be good but not convinced I would book a long haul. Think J is the way forward on those!

Out of 4 flights in the last week, 48B/C on reconfigured A380 (excellent short haul option), 2 J upgrades with DragonAir and a Y+ upgrade with Qantas. Very happy with that week indeed.

Sorry if this has already been covered but just found the thread and don't have the time to read 39 pages

I've got 80k locked in for qf128 hk - syd this weekend but all the seats upstairs in Y are free apart from 35j/k and 36j/k

Just wondering what the front row of upstairs economy is like, row 32 specifically, does it have a bulkhead cut out or is leg room limited? Would anyone recommend switching from 80k to upstairs? Thought it might be quieter with less people up there?

Cheers

I've moved from 50C to 32A for a November flight.

Hoping to use any available side storage bins.

Since your flight is this weekend maybe you could have a lookand report back?

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Yeah i'm torn as I'm already in a pretty good seat downstairs but if it is nice and quiet and empty upstairs it would be quite nice too....

You think there will be side bin storage for window seats upstairs? I was thinking it might be a safer bet to book 33a/k and then if there is no bulkhead cut out in row 32 you will end up with more leg room and if it is a lightly loaded flight you may be able to jump up to row 32 after take off anyway.

If i don't switch, I might just sneak up there via the back stairs anyway to have a look and will check it out in more detail

What is the seat map like on QF website for the reconfigured version. Since the upper deck seats have lower numbers, do those seats appear at the "front" of the seat map. Or are they completely separate?

On the actual seat selection thing they appear in a separate upper deck section like you see for J on the 744.

How soon is the flight? My November trip only shows me in 32A and another in 36K - every other seat is available.

When l did SYD-PER return in J (this year), as a QF Gold, l could only select seats in the last 2 rows of J.....(upper and lower decks).

Yeah,I have a couple of domestic J bookings at the moment and can only access the last 2 or 3 rows. Oh well, t-80. :)

Emerald city on the A380 is all blocked out for me too. :)

So has anyone seen/tried row 32 upstairs in Y yet?

My QF94 in November has been changed to the new config... all of upstairs Y is open except 36K.

I've selected 33JK for the mrs and I for now, but would like to know what the bulkhead is like...

I'm on the new config tonight, going to keep my 80k seat but will sneak up there to check it out at least and if possible take a quick picture but should be able to let you know what its like up there.

Thanks, that would be appreciated :)

I've got 80k on the way over, but couldn't get it on the way back so when the upperdeck Y seats appeared seemed like a no brainer to check them out, just not sure which ones :)

Just checked again and plane has now switched back to original config do can't have a look now...

I travelled Y+ on the new config ex LAX, and whilst the curtain seperates Y+ from the toilets ar the rear of J, there is nothing to stop you going through the curtains and using the toilets and I wasn't told anything to the contrary and no others from Y+ were turned back.
How long were the queues? Especially pre-arrival when J pax want to change back to clothes.

And what the hell is it with the wording, "It's no longer necessary..."? You do or you don't do it?
Reminds me of the wording on the phone company intercept messages when they starting introducing 10-digit dialing (including area code) in the States. It used to be that you just dialed the local number, but when area code splits started up, you had to dial the number with the area code. In some places you needed the "1" in front which told the phone switch that the next thing you dialed was an area code, but in other places the "1" was only used for a toll call. In those places, if you dialed the "1," the call was intercepted by a recording that said "It is not necessary to dial a one when calling this number." But of course that was incorrect, what they meant was "It is required to not dial a one when calling this number."
