New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

I'm not terribly bothered because I don't fly Qantas... but...

Same sentiments here, but I will fly QF again one day, not sure when.


3. Economy on the top deck will just be confusing for pax during boarding.

Actually it's not too difficult, SQ manage quite OK to board Y passengers in the upper deck without too much drama, just need signs/lanes indicating rows that need to be boarded upstairs.

Having flown SQ economy upstairs on the A380, as far as economy goes, at least the sort of economy with 31-32" seat pitch, it's pretty good. I'm sure there'll be high demand for these seats on QF, notwithstanding they are most definitely not at the front of the plane, they are the sorts of seats that elite pax will be interested in.
 
Still no seat map on the QF web site. I'm wanting to print a clearer copy than that inserted by the OP to compare it more closely with the existing configuration.

Just left click it and open the image in a new window - got bigger for me :)
 
I can't visualize it. Isn't there a safety issue if row 48 has an issue with the door?

People have been sitting near doors for ages on many aircraft and many airlines. The issue here it seems is the door is one used for boarding, though not sure what the issue is. My last flight was on a Thai 747 with the old config and was sitting in the seat right next to door 1L. The boarding passengers didn't get in my way and I didn't get in their way. Don't see it would be too different on the A380.
 
As much as it sounds strange, I doubt QF would have made these changes (which would not be capital light) without months of research and consulting with staff. The toilet to pax ratio may be best suited for efficient utilisation, no one other than QF knows the true facts and figures which led to these decisions. There may be some wrinkles to iron out, but no new product is perfect.
 
Looks like for Y passengers row 32 might be a good one to select (somewhat similar to 71D, 80A/K) and meals may be served quicker - if the catering is on a different trolley to PE then upper deck Y and PE may be served at the same time?

Agree with the sentiments about the downgrade in PE, it has cheapened the product. I doubt there would be a price reduction to reflect this change.

You might also get some J/PE pax using the upper deck Y toilets - more often than not on the current config J pax use the PE toilets if there is too big of a line.

Just remember adding that row 48 could be the difference between a profitably route or a route that has to withdrawn.

If that were the case, the aircraft would be losing money if it weren't 100% full.



I'm actually surprised that they didn't can the onboard Business Lounge to cram a few more seats in!

That whole row 48 thing just seems so coughbersome. Increasing the workload of the FAs at an already busy time. But then, since when has employee workload been a decision making factor for a bean counter?

Is this change why I can't view the seat map on my LAX-SYD booking for next month?

What really annoys me, is that being 6ft9in tall and 170+kgs I used to love the one bathroom on the plane (in the middle of the J upper deck) that I can fit in comfortably.

I venture up from F to use that loo... I love it...
 
It is an interesting concept that the overhead lockers for row 48 are being locked.

It seems to provide a valid argument that lockers above the seats belong to the seat.

I wonder if this will catch on?

Sounds good. Then they will really be a "locker". You could get a key issued with your BP.
 
The decrease in J seats is intriguing. Considering how hard it is to get an award J seat to SIN/LHR & LAX. Would QF make more profit from keeping the J for redemption rather than Y seat revenue?

As a person who flys y more than J, the upper deck Y cabin is good for me, but appreciate the sentiments of what appears to a worse product in general.

Someone on Flyertalk, in the BA forum, said that BA make the most profit from Y+ seats. QF could be in the same boat...

But they added only 3 of those seats.
Or they are slowly getting it ready to be converted to Jetstar domestic operations.
 
Well after flying exclusively QF since 1995 I'm afraid this will be it for me. I just don't see a future with QF product. They're trying to improve profit by offering less product.

I liked it too. As a SFSC, 'your people' is me :shock:.

As a denizen of emerald city or, more often than not F on upgrade, the changes don't affect me.

I always wondered how much the self-serve bars were used as I haven't noticed them being used very much during my nocturnal wandering. So not surprised to see them go.

I can't imagine that the gnomes at QF are quite as silly as has been painted by many in this thread - but must agree that, on the face of it, the management of pax in 48A-C seems extraordinarily complicated.
