New QF lounge for LHR [Why no F?]

Re: New QF lounge for LHR

From anecdotes I have com across (some recent), I suggest you triple that figure (First lounges)...

Happy to be corrected. That was the figure that another AFFer gave me a couple years ago after a chat with the F lounge staff. That figure was purely for entry however and IIRC there are further charges for F&B.

The charging level i indicated referred to flat rate. It was originally around the time when qantas introduced the rule re crediting program for status benefits.

Makes sense to me. As I said, my number was from 2 years ago.

What rule in particular are you referring to?

Re: New QF lounge for LHR

I completely understand the logic of not having a separate F Lounge in LHR (few QF pax, alternative lounges etc). It would be nice though if all these combined lounges had some product differentiation for F pax and top tier (however defined CL, P1, maybe WP). eg a separate space of the lounge where you could enjoy some peace and quiet and maybe have access to better quality drinks. A divider could be the separation (more flexible than a wall - though I guess may come across as cheap). And I agree with Princess Fiona that spa access for F pax would be good.

Not that I fly QF F much but I also completely agree that some differentiation from J of the food onboard is required. I've recently flown SQ in F and LH (in J but saw the F menu) and the step up is significant - even on medium haul flights.

I'm pretty sure QF F pax still get a complimentary spa treatment at the No. 1 Traveller spa.

Isn't a separate space, in effect, a Flounge? (even if the door from the concourse is the same). This was the situation in HKG before the new combined lounge and it was very nice.

Re: New QF lounge for LHR

As I said in another thread it makes no sense for Qantas to have First Lounges outside Australia. That should be the responsibility of the local Oneworld airline at that hub.

What if there is no local OW airline? Many other top tier airlines have Flounges away from their own countries but then they usually offer a decent F product

That was the case until seven or eight (?) years ago, but subsequently the F and J lounges were totally separate, upstairs and downstairs, before the current lounge opened.

LHR? Is Qantas down to 2 flights a day now? It makes no sense to have a separate room if the traffic does not warrant an F lounge.

Does Emirates have an F Lounge in SIN, KUL, HKG?

Personally I like the concept of the new lounges in SIN and HKG and if LHR is anything like them then Qantas are on a winner.

I totally agree with you JohnK
QF2/10 are the only flights now from LHR. EK does not have any F lounges outside DXB AFAIK.

Re: New QF lounge for LHR

IIRC EK First passengers are also allowed to use QF operated First lounges so would the potential passenger count available for a QF operated First lounge at LHR T3 be 106 - 112 depending on EK31/2 going to an A380?
Of course add in the Platinum level passengers for both airlines and oneworld partners if the QF offering is good shows a very large number of customers, but QF would have to look at potential revenue versus operating cost to see if that makes usiness sense.
From the QF decision though it does not make business sense to them.
As said by others just because QF has decided not to create a separate First lounge does not mean a reduction in WP benefits as they did not have a QF First Lounge there before and there are other oneworld First Lounge options at T3 that remain available.
Oh tot those that think WP is just the same a SG, let me tell from my first year down to SG, there is a large difference and it hurts after years of WP....:(

Just a thought, but my feeling as soon as the LHR lounge was announced was "watch this space". I'd say the PER-LHR talk, which AJ himself has been spruiking, will probably turn out to be more than just rumour - maybe not direct. On the surface a move like this would seem to indicate that QF might be seeking to expand again into LHR.

Even if they do launch PER-LHR, they won't be offering F.

Never said they would. This thread is titled "New QF lounge for LHR". I wasn't trying to buy into the discussion around whether or not it should have an F section.

Just clarifying for some ;)
