New Velocity website error

Hate it, everything was mush simpler and cleaner and now it looks like the intern marketing kid thinks hes building an App with lots of big colourful photos and fewer words.

Where the hell do I go now to look up accommodation only? Not Velocity Partner (Acor, Hilton ect) and not Virgin Holidays but actual shop hotel nights?

As for the issues which I see...they will polish them all up over the next week or so.

Should've been done in development.

However, I get the impression that execs wanted this out before the end of May, so the web team did as much as they could, launched it and are now doing something akin to what the video game industry call "day one patches".

All IT does "day one patches" but basic functionality such as logging in should work you would have thought.

Bonus points offered for Platinum and Gold appear to have come down to 75% and 50% respectively on long and short haul flights too. Here's hoping it is an error on the website rather than a devaluation.
It's actually the same with Delta, I think it's a general error.

I don't mind the redesign so much, but it's quite clearly not at a stage where it's useful for managing your membership effectively.

As has been said earlier in the thread this smacks of a marketing led redesign and looks squarely aimed at bringing in new members:

Why yes Velocity, I would love to join your program after logging in and being a member for several years.

The lack of mileage calculator and access to an SC earn table is quite frustrating for me at this point. I'm trying to manage a WP upgrade for the end of the year and I'm having to guesstimate SC earn to decide whether or not I need to do a status run soon.

Hopefully the patches continue - the first time I tried it didn't even have a 'My Velocity' tab

I saw that last night and actually clicked it to see if it would figure out that Im already registered but nope, its the sign up page.

Idiots.

Oh VA VA VA... whatever will we do with you? Launch a massive sale, advertise 35% off, yet when I go to book, the booking engine is broken. I selected 23/26th August, select my flight on 23rd, and you cannot change the date on the return flight. The return flight dates flip to Mid september. If you change it back to August, it says you cannot book a flight on the same day. Last I checked, 26th of August is not the same as 23rd of August.

Not to mention every couple of screens I get the Tomcat Authentication error and have to start again...

For an airlines that has limited capital, why the hell did they need to spend what will likely be millions of dollars on this? The old VFF site was fine - it is the regular Virgin site that needs to be fixed.

This was at the last results:

Velocity faced challenges in the first half due to the impact of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) changes to the credit card interchange regime and due to Velocity’s investment in new business development initiatives that will be launching in the 2019 financial year.

Big things to come?

And in the "you can't be serious" category, table header text that wraps on itself? That's bad design.
You call that bad? When I click on "MENU", disgustingly in all caps in the top right corner, the menu it displays does not even fit on my screen! Even among all the other badly designed sites out there, I can't think of one where you have to manually click to get a menu and then that menu requires scrolling the screen to be able to see it all.

That's not so bad. Having 'menu' written in text is good, as not everyone knows the 'hamburger' menu icon. Many sites use the slide-out menu design as it makes a cleaner looking site. However, on desktop, for usability, and especially for a site like this which is visited daily and where users perform a lot of actions, the menu should be expanded by default.

I've just been getting the spinning circle when going to book the past couple of days - no flights are returned.

Great way to lose sales.

Yep, definitely need to clear your cache if the page stops responding when searching for flights.
I notice they're making gradual improvements, with some parts of the site scheduled to be offline today. Looks like they've finally been able to automatically resize the new site to fit the window too.....

Resizing an irrelevant bandwidth-sucking, CPU-sucking auto-playing video isn't worthy of being called an improvement. The only way to improve that is to remove it.

Does anyone know which digital agency they've used for this new site? I have a sneaking suspicion and hope it can be confirmed (the chunky design, clunky UX and awful roll-out reminds me specifically of one agency we used for a project at a past job). If it is who I think it is, we're in for a world of pain...
