New Years in Vanwatoo

Mt.Yasur is currently active, caveat emptor…. fantastic to visit at sunset

Oh yeah, it was at level 2 when we were there. And I'm aware that others on AFF have been there and felt very unsafe, but I did not on my day and thought it was one of the best experiences of my life. Only downer is the difficult car ride there and back.

Great trip report - thanks for putting it together. MrsK and I have been looking at a winter getaway, outside of school holidays and I think Vanuatu is well and truly in the list

We were in Vanuatu for Xmas.
Such an easy trip from Brisbane but the delays at the airport were unacceptable.
45 mins for passport stamp and then 45mins for a ridiculous scan of baggage for everyone. This is a new scanner apparently - ridiculous for a flight coming from Australia into a country where no one has any money to buy any contraband worth smuggling! Kids and oldies were fainting in the queue and it would put me off going back.
What would get me back was the pineapple - OMG - best ever.

You were unlucky. We went through customs on Boxing Day and they were only scanning those who noted something to declare.

I agree the wait for Immigration can be long but hey it’s the Pacific and everything moves slowly. It’s not helped by passengers who aren’t prepared with their documentation of proof of a return flight.

I remember our flight landed around midnight. I think we waited over an hour for luggage. There was a small welcome band that kept playing and playing. I felt sorry for everyone!

Unacceptable? Sure it took too long but you were half the time we were. Is more than an hour in LA any different? They have the people and the money and are often worse. It was very hot and stuffy, for the 90 minutes we were waiting just for the stamp, but no one fainted. older people just sat on the seats near the windows until their families got to the agents. No scanning for us. Such a judgemental post. Why should Australians be treated differently?

I guess it’s more a thought that there isn’t much exported from Australia that might be deemed unacceptable to Vanuatu (although Corby kind of killed that idea). If people fainted on that persons trip then they did and maybe that’s something that might be looked into. Everyone’s experience is different.
