New Zealand airfares will rise - NZD22 in new taxes

At this stage in my life, as a sub contractor NZ is my only place to go and come back on a long weekend either Easter or Christmas when its Fri and Mon or Thu and Fri and weekend or some mix like that.

AGAIN with the concern about being checked by customs. Seems to me the only people who should be worried about this are people with something to hide. You got extra scooby snacks you shouldn't have?

Goodness me AP I really don't get it. Yes, customs (or whatever they're called these days) obviously target flights and pax from suspect countries/flights over "vanilla" (or safe) places like NZ, but they also do random checks. I for one am glad for it. Yes, folks with connections or dying to get home can be annoyed at being delayed a bit, but it doesn't take that long (I've been checked returning from europe, US, etc). I'm not concerned one little bit about it. Happy our authorities are doing their jobs (or making an effort anyway ).

As usual we have yet another government that giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other.

The New Zealand government have been trying to introduce a way that Australian conference groups could claim back any GST spent in NZ. This look like falling over due to some over the top rules obviously written by someone who does not understand the way the industry works. Obviously this is aimed at getting more groups to NZ. The along comers the government and applies a new tax that makes NZ a little less attractive.

Maybe the NZ government should meet with its self and sort out what they want to achieve
