Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

What was your opinion of the Burn Cottage? Despite the hype, I was not blown away - at least by the 2009, of which I still have one bottle slumbering.

Disclaimer!.......Had a couple of chards b4 the pinot! Not at all what I expected. Dark berries rather than floral cherry on the nose. Restrained in expression. Herbacious forest floor undertones, modicum of spice, lush mouth feel if a little 'hollow' on the palate. Good acidity with light but grippy tannins and some residual green stalkiness.
Overall, very elegant style but a bit 'dumb' in expression. Only 2013, needs time to develop those alluring secondary characteristics. I like a pinot to seduce me with a bit more funk on the nose.

Had this EpiQure red with Mac n Cheese bolognese

Surprising nose - full of oak and berries. First couple of sips had overpowering astringency so I waited until after dinner to finish the glass with Apple & Cheese. Much better with a swill which helped to open up the nose and palate. Good quaffer

Half of this tonight.

One of several single vineyard varietals (Shiraz and Grenache) only available at the cellar door that I picked up a few years ago.

Fragrant, voluptuous and rich - Grenache at its best IMO.

Ok I'm beyond curious - what's Mac n cheese bolognese ?

QF WP are you pouring the wine back into your favourite glass after the photo shoot ?

You lot just won't let it go. No, I'm using the Riedel - pour backs are not done in my household. In fact I need to have a mark on the side for 1 standard drink because I had 2 glasses last night and had some weird dreams overnight. Must check the level of the bottle this morning

Bolognese on the bottom with macaroni on top, with melted cheese over everything. One child loves it, the other just wants to eat the macaroni. One child went to bed a bit hungry. Who said parenthood was easy? Maybe that's why I drank 2 glasses last night :D

It's not easy being the child either !
My parents have been staying with us on and off on an extended holiday since late January. They left yesterday for a couple of days in SYD prior to their EK flight back to GLA on Wed.
Shrek and I collapsed on the sofa last night and shared a bottle of this watching Broadchurch

And there's none left in that bottle now :D

(Apologies but...) Ah but what evidence do we have that you actually drink from 'the' Riedel rather than leave it there for the next photo? :)

Dont worry QF WP.I use even less correct glasses than you for drinking my wine.Still tastes the same.
Many times in the past I would try a wine in the correct glass and an ordinary one.No discernable difference to me.

The "correct" glasses are 'bigger'. :)

Oh. I thought a bottle was one standard drink! Checked the level of the bottle this morning and alas I was right!

Collapsed in relief or tinged with sadness:confused:. Although you're heading their way on the weekend. That will be when Shrek opens a couple more - have you ben buying up for him :D ;)

I've come to the realisation that I can pour a much bigger "glass" every night using the Riedel, so I only drink one every night. You'll just have to take my word as a Moderator, won't you :D

Last night I finished the Peter Lehmanns. Now what to select tonight - might be a Tintara...in the Riedel :D

Lucky I'm going to an Epiqure event next month and get myself one of those 'proper' glasses :p

Yep. In moderation, I'll accept that 690ml is enough. But you need some burgundy Riedels. They hold another 10ml.

Currently these 2 bottles open, not in 1 go!! ;)
The Robertson is very much better than Mad Hatter.
Mad Hatter not a bad drop but no oomph.
