A couple of oldies tonight to go with BBQ steak:
Kalleske Greenock Shiraz 2002 - huge 15.5% alcohol makes its presence felt in the first sip, but gradually fades over time. Fruits and earthy flavours, with that background taste of musty aged wine. Tannins maybe a touch shy of perfect, but definitely good.
Followed by Cullen Diana Madeline 2005, which is a step above - smooth, cultured, cherry flavours, great tannins. Overall just great drinking.

I was also drinking the Cullen Diana Madeline 2005 last night - my second wine from the 10 Year Reflection - Best of 2005 Classified Mixed Variety packs I had picked up from Langton's. I am guessing AC, you picked up your DM 05 from Langtons too.
On Vivino I gave my musings:
http://www.vivino.com/wines/23621
"An outstanding 4.4 from me. This Diana is 10 yrs old, and has lost none of its vibrancy or intensity. It's deep ruby in colour, but it's light in body. The nose is sweet, but very alcoholic, hinting at its 14% ABV. Left unswilled, you pick up the red and blue berry fruits, violets and vanilla. The velvety palate is big and smooth as those fruits unfold all over your mouth to give you that fine wine premium experience you expect at this price point and pedigree. I reckon it will be even better in 5 yrs time."
The biggest shame for me - none of the four adults around on Friday evening wanted to share this fine wine with me. So after 3 glasses (my max), I popped it in the fridge, cork back in to protect it from the 37 degree day we had yesterday. I let it slowly warm up, but it didn't survive to the Saturday night - and I am now on the hunt for those half bottles you good AFF Wine Lovers had suggested.
From the three nice glasses I had, I was torn between whether I preferred the more subtle 2008 or the more powerful 2005. I think I liked both for their different qualities, and concluded that the 2008 is right in its sweet spot drinking window, whereas the 2005 - for me - needs another 3-5 years of bottle ageing.
AnonymousCoward, I know you have the 2008 too. Did you come to a different conclusion? You drink more of the older vintages, so will probably have a more informed view than me.
