Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Recently went and enjoyed a pizza with all my mates:

Now I know a lot of you good folk go gaga over this drop but TBH it doesn't knock my socks off:

Sorry for the late post Wozza, I had an issue with my account.
On Saturday I attended a blind tasting of 16 wines, 4 each of Pinot, Zin and Shiraz. We were not even told which was which so had to work it out.
To me the standout wine was the Mosquito Hill Pinot (2013, $38). At first I thought it was a Pinot but then changed my mind to Zin. The finish was extremely long which confused me (maybe I need to do a Pinot master class with penegal) the nose was heavenly, a beautiful floral, the mouth feel was superb. I enjoyed this so much more than the St Hugo that was also one of the blinds. Be interested if anybody else has had the Mosquito.

Hmm - I hope you didn't put the champagne down as Zin!

As there seems to be a Pinot Noir theme coming from the latest posts, I thought I would share my views on the Pinot I have been drinking over the last few days:

the Punch Close Planted Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

On Vivino, I posted the following tasting note:

http://www.vivino.com/wines/13401941

"A super intense 4.1 from me. This Yarra Valley Pinot Noir comes from Lance's Vineyard - a 1/4 hectare block in Yarra Valley where the vines are only 1.2m apart. (Hence the name). Only 105 dozen wines were produced. There's an intense nose of ripe cherries, forest floor and fresh mushrooms. The palate is just as intense but smooth, as you get a sweet and sour hit from those flavours. The intensity is short, but it lingers very long. Halliday gave it 97, noting "it's sheer length and balance". I totally agree."

This came in the Halliday Hero Pack with an average price of $65 a bottle. I wasn't quite getting the 97 point experience. But it was an intriguing wine that was quite intense, as well as sweet and sour - all in a good way. That alone made it unique. And, for that, I was happy to pay the price of this very limited run Pinot Noir.

The question I was briefly debating with AnonymousCoward on the mof_ thread - when to drink this wine ...? It will be interesting to see if that intensity delivers in the years to come. Or whether the mellowing that often comes from ageing will make it more run-of-the-mill, robbing it of its undoubted trump card ...

Also, it would be interesting to try the latest 2013 the Fo were selling in 6 Packs against this 2012 too. If anybody in Sydney fancies a like for like swap or sale of one of their 2013 Lance's Vineyard, then please PM me.

Where would Australia day be without a brilliant Sparkling Shiraz.

Excellent drinking, along with 2007 (screw capped) Bin 389 and 2008 St Henri.

(Apologies for stock image. Forgot to save bottles for photos.)
