Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

2000 Mount Langi Ghiran "Langi Shiraz" tonight - beginning to appreciate this cool climate shiraz thing more. Had with some mildly spicy lentil thingie made of left over stuff :)

Amusingly, my GP takes photos of wines he drinks on special occasions and shows them to me when I visit.:) Great GP!

You should tell him you paid for x% of that great wine, so you'd be happy if he/she shared some fraction of that with you :) Or give you a rebate on your bill. Either way...

i think a 'better' GP would share the actual wines rather than just the photos
LOL. I mistyped. He doesn't actually buy the 'good' wines but has 'acquaintances' who do. GPs actually spend money one 'good' wines? What about the childrens' shoes, lap tops, children's wedding plans? :)

DrRon, what are your surgery hours for wine comparison? And are they bulk billed? ;)

This bloke seems to have done alright on the red.

A recently-deceased 107-year-old Spanish attributed his long-life to drinking four bottles of wine each day and never drinking water.
Antonio Docampo García, who died last week in Vigo, northwestern Spain, said he only imbibed his own homemade red wine.
Mr Docampo would drink two bottles of red wine with his lunch and another two with dinner.

LOL. Note the article said he 'never drinks water'. Maybe a clue.:)

Just sent that to a number of people, MrsTMA included. (Although tonight's a white night.)

I had this lovely 2010 Cab Sauv Merlot tonight at a restaurant in Hobart. Not a big bold wine but extremely drinkable - a really good food wine.

Celebrating a good result, I hope?
You get to that certain age and you become the guinea pig for all the medicos. However, they are looking after your best interests after all and the prostate check is something us guys have to do. Good luck with the results but it reminded me of my efforts. Mine was a little uncomfortable in that I reeled back a little in horror, and amazement when I noticed the good doctor was wearing rubber finger stalls over two fingers. I rather meekly asked, what's with the two digit inspection to which he calmly replied, Oh just getting a second opinion. Luckily all clear and he gave me the thumbs up. True story. Embellished plenty but still a healthy message.

Well, the Rockford wins hands down. A much better nose, a longer finish with a better mouth feel, more body and slightly drier. The Keller is certainly drinkable but at $15 I would sooner pay the extra for a Rockford.

Margan 2006 Merlot (Hunter Valley)

IMG_0454a.jpg

I first tasted this wine at a degustation lunch at the Margan restaurant. The food was terrific, as were the matched wines, but it was this aged merlot that stole the show. The wine wasn’t available for sale at the cellar door, but the obliging wait staff very kindly allowed us to purchase three bottles directly from the restaurant wine list.

A lightly oaked merlot that has undergone a wondrous transformation after a decade of ageing. The youthful plum and black cherry flavours have developed and transformed into the most amazing yet delicate complex savoury palate I have tasted in a merlot in a long while. Rich earthy flavours mingle with a graphite minerality, sweet tobacco and darkly roasted meaty flavours. Some residual sweetness remains on the palate for a perfect balance. The tannins are super fine, providing great structure and a nice textural experience. A long extended finish allowing the savoury flavours to linger. A very complete tasting experience.

A very unpretentious wine that has transformed into something quite remarkable. A real cinderella moment. Throughly delectable.

Yum. Drinking brilliantly. Would not recommend longer cellering. 'Loverly' fruit forward at the moment. Nice soft spice tannins, cassis, chocolate etc....

My screen isn't big enough. 1995?

Looks like 2010 to me. Kinda surprised - I'd expect this to be good drinking at any age, but 10+ years would be my normal view for something of this calibre.

Edit: but if it's good drinking now, will have to do a dive into the cellar - I think I have one of those somewhere.

Technically not a wine I've drunk, but a couple of these bad boys got delivered this week: 1996 Chapoutier Cote Rotie - single vineyard magnums (looks like they only have one vineyard in Mordor: orcs obviously not a fan of red wine. I guess they favour Sauv Blanc being from NZ and all that)
