Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

The letters look like 199-something but are in fact the following - 100%. Cheers. This 2010 reads like an absolute stunner for quality and flavour.
I seem to have unintentionally provided a light relief from Saturday night TV, with a wine puzzle. :)
Indeed y'all are correct, t'was a 2010. And, while not quite stunning, very good indeed.

Looks like 2010 to me. Kinda surprised - I'd expect this to be good drinking at any age, but 10+ years would be my normal view for something of this calibre.

Edit: but if it's good drinking now, will have to do a dive into the cellar - I think I have one of those somewhere.

Doh  It's so obvious now...

Zooming in I can make out 199-something.

That's exactly what I did

tHe MoLlY Tv sHoW jUsT iSnt doing for me...unfortunately. So I seek solace in you tube listening to Freddie mercury as it happens. A night at the opera was the most expensive album made AT that stage. However, good is good and great is what Queen were. But let me take you back a few hours to my nice seafood rice dinner dish .

First was the Zonte's Footstep Rose 2013. You cannot complain about a simple wine that's made to please. Again, it tastes better when it warms up a little. But it's a nice appetizer with no complexity whatsoever.

Next came the 2014 Think Outside The Circle Cabernet 2014. I was thinking outside the square when I bought this and clearly I had a geometric issue happening. From Orange in New South, with all the accolades, all the medals, it sounded like medical sildenafil - not pizotifen unfortunately - how could you go wrong ? '''' ..I really thought it would be a winner, but you've guessed right already. A hot Sunday night was a factor, so I put a glass in the fridge. Slightly different with a bit more body becoming evident, but it's going back. A bit like Wozza's last three. Crikes mate(wozza), no wonder you are going for the supurb stuff at Langton's and judging by the value, it sure is there. I was very disappointed with Think , so I pulled out another comparison wine. To compare naturally, as you do. To contrast, as you do. Happened to be the 2014 Maverick GSM. By now you realize that I like my wine and I like my music. Together. Mostly. How could a music industry that was at such a lofty artistic peak fall into such an abyss of creativity for decades? The Maverick is not going back, but how much pepper did they put in this thing? It tastes like someone has poured a pepper dispenser over a steak. I know pepper is supposed to be a predominant indicator of the subterranean earth ( is it basalt in Victoria that comes to mind), but the mav at least has the cohunnas to go the distance. It ain't as good as the 13, but that's life. Back to Molly's ending......if you pardon the expression.

Some pretty average opinions on the Think Outside The Circle Cabernet....yet it scored a 96 a numerous awards! Is it more a matter of personal taste or just not a well put together wine?

Need to make more space in my wine fridge, so this was the first sacrifice:

Jim Barry The Benbournie 2004. Initial taste test, is nice and smooth, but will give it a bit of time to open up.

Sunday night Pinots: fabulous COs

Akarua loverly.
Chard Farm excellent.
Pisa Range brilliant, what Central Otago Pinots were and should be. Forest floor, cassis, depth, wonderful tannins, long finish. Simply marvellous especially for a 10 yo! Much more life in it yet.

Sampling one of my 2013 Tassie Pinots tonight - strawberries and cream come to mind, light body and long finish - similarities to a rose. I've not had a Pinot that tastes like this before, very nice

Nice! I love this wine. One of the best Aussie Pinots I've had. To elegant and refined.

Okay - cancel my AFF membership, remove my posts, they must be tainted! You thought you knew him, but he turned out to be one of those Sauv Blanc New Zealand lovers!! What's happened to him? I hear you cry!

Well. I have just given 4 stars to the:

Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Awatere Valley Marlborough - Sauvignon Blanc 2015

IMG_0986.jpg

Not only that. Apparently the winemaker is convinced the vines should have opera billowed out to them 24hrs a day! They actually do it - 24/7!! I have totally lost it! For some context, my Vivino tasting note said:

http://www.vivino.com/wines/113615826

"A highly aromatic and nuanced 4.0 from me. The wife said get me a nice SB, I don't like that Chardonnay and Riesling rubbish you keep bringing back! [insert Hunter Semillon in that camp too!] Then Kemneys came to the rescue selling 'the best SB in the world' and countless other accolades. I had to get it, especially at $19 a bottle. The nose is magnificent, as huge plumes of tropical fruits fill the room - yes the room! The palate is mouth filling, and lifts as the fruit and acid deliver a fine tropical fruit and minerally finish that lasts an age."

In the more detailed notes, I mentioned it was closed on the first night and quite minerally. On the third night of being in the fridge and letting it warm up, it was quite a magnificent wine [I can't believe I am saying that!] In terms of the nose: along with citrus fruits and minerals, there's a distinct smell of something I couldn't quite pick (the bottle said herbs). In terms of flavour: citrus fruits, orange, apple, pink grapefruit and slate. In terms of the finish: it was sharp and dry, but lingered long.

And the Million Dollar question - did Mrs Wozza approve?

No..!!

Oh well. At least I tried!
