Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Petaluma obviously use superior cork as usually little problems with them.Occasionally a crumbling cork but wine has been still drinkable but not that good. This one was fine as have been the 2 reislings.

The 2002 Penfolds Bin 28.
Eeek. That's a pity :(

To be honest, the Basket Press while alright, wasn't great. Clearly from a poorer vintage. Was great having it blind without any preconceptions.
You need a 2010 - absolutely outstanding. Just ask penegal - we shared one at the Hilton Adelaide (with another friend) and it was sublime. In my top 5...

Its actually just the foil at the top making it look like that. No glass damage :)
Ah, wouldn't have picked that ... thought somebody has beena bit harsh with the bottle opener...

2010 was a corker for Barossa and Rockford.

I'm pretty bad at posting to this thread. Had a lovely meal with PF and Shrek last Fri.

Started on the Little Creatures with Shrek while PF's girls helped her do makeup and hair.

Moved onto G&T upon arrival at restaurant, then I selected an Alsace Riesling for starters. Shrek selected a Hently Farm Shiraz for mains and PF picked a Muscat for dessert.

Fabulous meal. Good food, good wine & great company.... Naturally I forgot to take photos or post about it.

2014 Terre del Barolo Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy

Not sure if I want dessert or not

Oh yeah, all nice, but kinda weird having the sauce out of the pasta.

I basically up-ended the pasta sauce into the pasta after that pic.

I actually have three more bottles of the 2002 Bin 28 left. I felt like a bit of a schmuck not taking a backup bottle with.

I think what mean is I need more 2010 BP. I have three sitting in the cellar, but don't like on touching the first one for another few years.

Penfolds replaced a Grange that was corked when I went to one of their recorking clinics. That does maintain loyalty. I still think 707 drinks better than Grange. Had the dozen Diana Madeline 2014 arrive safely so I should have some when the AFF Perth gathering is on.

Speaking of maintaining loyalty (and service recovery)

A few days after an order from Cullen arrived, an identical delivery turned up - on calling Cullen to let them know and arrange for the return, I came away from the phone call thinking I would never purchase directly from them again - an hour or so later they called me back and acknowledged they could have handled the situation differently etc now a few weeks on this turned up in the mail :)

I had a gritty Diana and they replaced it. It was one out of quite a few so I am a happy camper with Cullen.

How on earth do they handle badly someone trying to do the right thing?! At least they came good but still....

Hats off to them as they made the effort to turn it around. I look at it as water under the bridge, as such the details are best forgotten - but I also couldn't believe it at the time

Really, they are only doing what they are obliged to do there. Having said that, I've returned several Penfolds wines without issue and had replacements. This time around, I couldn't be bothered putting the wine back in the bottle and dealing with it while out, especially given it was a $22 wine.

I've had a similar but opposite experience with Penfolds. Ordered 6 bottles of the 2012 St Henri which didn't turn up. So they sent a replacement. Then a week or so later the original turned up. I did the right thing and called them. After a bit of messing around on the phone I was told I could keep it. The next day I get a call telling me they need to go back and they'll arrange pick-up. Was pretty busy at work and didn't really think to tell them that once they transferred ownership to me, they can't ask for it back. However, that evening I sent an email letting them know I thought it was dealt with poorly. They said they would send me something. A week later received a coughpy bottle of Bin 8.

yes, though perhaps a bit early for me to open one out of my pocket - like [post=1458513]Sedimental[/post], had the 2006 on the weekend, along with a couple of pinot noirs, Ata Rangi 2006 and Oakridge Willowlake 2012, and Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale 2010 - all good, with time (and more bottles) to go :)

So what does this super dad, super M&A lawyer, super hungry man do ...? He ignores the ready-meal, and makes himself cheese-on-toast, complete with picante sauce! And he pairs it perfectly with the incredible:

nice - and a stemless wine glass to boot? :)

This weeks quaffers on their way to the recycling bin:

I cooked a roast (beef) with an English mustard seal (on the parents side) on Sunday and cracked the Taylor's - peppery and a touch of oak with a long finish. Sat and savoured a second glass after a long day and enjoyed it with cheddar, Swiss and some plain rice crackers. Life can be good sometimes - simple pleasures
