Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

The bottle opened last night was 2017 vintage, definitely no isuues with that one. Didn’t touch my 2018s yet.

Glad to hear you liked the D&J. I’ve ordered their Pinot once and they’ve accidentally sent me Chardonnay. I’ve cancelled the order, got refund but they never bothered to collect their wine back. Guess I’ll have to drink it eventually ;)
I didn’t realise you were a stonewaller boomy, as a pleb I need to wait until December for the ‘18 to get released to the CD.

I’m not, far from it :D
Got some bottles courtesy of another stonewaller.

Forgot about this sole bottle I had laying around. Decanted it for 4 hours and it went perfectly well with a leg of lamb I slow cooked in the wood oven with oregano, garlic and lemon.

I’m glad those 20-year wines are still going well if kept well. Certainly need a few hours of air though.

I must have misunderstood your post.

i didn't make it clear either, i don't have any problem with most wax seal wine, but this bottle wax seal is quite hard, usually the little knife on the waiters friend does the trick.

Don't bother trying to remove the wax seal. Just go straight through it with a waiters friend and pull the cork out as per usual. Works surprisingly well.

This is from auction not long ago, pour 1hr early into the glass, dark fruits with rose perfume , I like this type of hunter reds where oak is just a support rather than the hero of the wine, great finish at the end.

Interested to know how your bottle was on opening? I had one of these 6 months ago and I couldnt believe how closed it was for the first hour or maybe even more. Closed might not even be the right word....dead, asleep?......To the point where I was regretting buying so many of these, thankfully it eventually opened up and was fantastic, but I dont think ive ever witnessed such a drastic change in a wine before.

It Is quite closed in the beginning but I can smell the perfume. My usual routine for just delivered wines is to stand the bottle up somewhere cool until the next day, put the bottle in the fridge for around 20mins before opening ,depends on how cold your own fridge is, I hardly do any decant for the whole bottle, just pour a glass and leave it alone for an hour. Even on the third night the wine still very drinkable , no sign of sourness or flavour faded away.

Some wines I've enjoyed over the last month or so.
So glad I splashed on out the Mt Langi - absolutely fantastic. The ice wine was enjoyable but not very complex. Edizione was a new experience, thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended. The Aglianico was a nice change although the tannins got a little bit much by the end, probably could have done with some nibbles to soften the impact (maybe blue vein). The St Henri (2013) was stock standard high quality Penfolds, can't complain. The Tapanappa is a great merlot blend and I'm really happy to have 6 still sleeping away. Toolangi was very soft, smooth and quite nice but I wouldn't say it carried a wow factor. Dr Loosen was delicate and enjoyable (got one left) and has reinvigorated my interest in riesling. Second last of my West Cape tempranillo - this has been an enjoyable journey over the last 4 years or so 20181202_102218.jpg 20180415_191142.jpg
