Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

A Vermentino from its home, at a great little outdoor/indoor Italian resto (Capo in Tsim Sha Shui) in Hong Kong tonight. Went perfectly with excellent pesto pasta.

These guys have nailed it for pizza and pasta and a great Italian wine list. Highly recommended.

The last night of 17 weeks on the road. Back to PERfection tomorrow on the last sector of this year’s DONE4. Stopover forced on me by CX cancelling my flight from CMB today and having to fly 24h earlier. An inspired cancellation :).

Something for the nice weather yesterday. All the head Shiraz are top notch, I prefer the redhead over the ironheart at this stage , the wirra rsw not far behind.

added a few more bottles . The cab sav is my favourite and for a few others but others prefer the Grenache blend,

a friend came late with this bottle , we all had a little taste and I’m finishing it off tonight, very fragrant raspberry , creamy, I think this is 100% whole bunch , will definitely open a 2012 dr Mayer this Christmas.

Tonight.

They rate it on their website 'to be the most complete and complex Cabernet Sauvignon produced at Woodlands.':
Woodlands Wines

Certainly very good - and it has been well-curated in my cabinet since purchase at release - but it doesn't have that (admittedly extremely rare) 'wow-factor' that I am always looking for.

it might be just oak and sweet fruit you tasted for now, this might take another decade to integrate together for complexity.

I may not have another decade left

Indeed you may not young feller… but I wish you luck

Back on topic , I haven't ordered a new wine frig but had some excellent (well I thought so) advice from a friend who owns a commercial frig buisness .
Any s/h wine frig compressor repair … $1500 ….so that ends the temptation to buy a sh "bargain"

V High quality products from Bar fridges au.
Longtime in business AU co , built locally from selected best available components , 3 y on site warranty.

Of course the linkage here is that there is little point collecting hundreds of bottles of maturing plonk if I won't be around to drink them.

Just received a Qantas wine gift pack from a friend and this was in it - has anyone tried this - I have never seen a wine with a cap like that. I don't like sweet wine and I don't like sparking so I may just open it for friends one night
