I went to Tscharke with @boomy and @Steady. Same week, different days. I'm a sucker for punishment.
A fabulous cellar door to visit.
This particular wine is delicate and smooth, soft tannins with a touch of spice. It's one of those wines you can drink in the hot summer months and it won't do your head in. You could probably even drink it slightly chilled. I got stuck into it with lamb loin chops and enjoyed it.

Thought I’d open something special for the wiff’s birthday on Friday, tried one of the 2012 McGuigan Philosophy given it had a bit of age. I aerated it but found it quite acidic, so left it for a day. Lightly better but not great, so only had one glass. Tried again tonight and it was much better, not as bright and showing a lot more complexity. I guess that means it still has some time in the bottle?

It is for this reason I buy a minimum of 2. My logic has always been if the first was good I have another, if the first was corked or gone bad there is always a second bottle to try.

That’s normally my strategy as well but I find it hard to spend big on sparkling wine as most are indeed inferior to champagne. Ej Carr LD is good example, while it’s very nice drop there’s no shortage of better options at similar price point.

This one is not expensive ($14-$15) and it is not that bad, what makes it better was the price. On the floor the advertised price $5 a bottle at the register it was $3.33. Needless to say we picked up some more ;) our local first choice is the shop that keeps on giving :)

In a previous post about bargins I posed it was BWS but it was actually first choice.
