No more Priority Baggage for Qantas Club

I have written to QC seeking an explanation of the lack of provision of this service/benefit to QC members but no response received. I consider it to be on a par with denying you entry, snacks or drinks at the QP, simply because they're too lazy to do it. It only requires firm management by QF of baggage handlers to make it work as it is supposed to, so join in and protest at this lack of provision which is discounting the value of QC membership.
I'm more inclined to think that making a hoo-ha over this issue is going to resonate with the baggage handlers, few of whom would be QP/SG/WP, to the extent that baggage tagged as Priority might end up gathering more airmiles than the passenger. Or one bag emerging in first, second, and fourth places on the carousel.
 
it might just be easier to tag the bags of everyone else with “last”!
Maybe I'll try that and make up my own "LAST" bagtags to see if the reverse psychology works.:rolleyes:

mabunji has nailed it.... be thankful your bag gets unloaded in one piece in half reasonable time; the unions will strike if asked to speed up the delivery of priority tagged bags.
 
MH honoured my Qantas Business Class baggage tag this week, even though I was in Y on both QF and MH flights, my bag was third onto the carousel after the MH flight.

I connected at SIN from QF to MH and teh bag was checked through for the connection. I am used to long waits for bags to arrive at KUL, even when arriving in MH F class. This time was Y class on both QF and MH, so my QF Platinum status scored me a Business Class bag tag at QF check-in. I thought to myself at the time that the tag will be useless for arrival into KUL.

Then again, it might just have been coincidence and perhaps QF too a long time to get my bag from the Terminal 2 arrival to MH's Terminal 1 aircraft so my bag may have been third last to board the aircraft.

Priority tagging is a bit hit and miss. IME, the priority tagged luggage about 25% of the time comes out on the carousel after the untagged luggage, probably because their is less untagged than tagged. :shock:

I also find that CIA's often don't tag platinum members luggage properly (should be BUSINESS but is often PRIORITY), but I guess this doesn't matter a whole lot when the bags come out in such a random order.

My priority tagged luggage has come out last at Perth airport, on 2 occasions. One flight was on a 747, so I had to wait some time. I do wonder what is the definition of priority luggage.

Perth has a terrible reputation in regard to Priority Luggage. Especially the ULD (container) loaded aircraft (763's, 747's, 330's) where they can blame the dispatching port. It seems to be a game with the handlers there ...

Every so often they get their act together but within a few months it's back to 'random' order.

Even CBR has it's problems, but at least there, a lot more attention is paid to ensure luggage is placed on the carousels in priority order ... Purple Business Tags first, Yellow and other priority next, then the remainder.

However, it's a bit easier there, as aside from the odd 763 from MEL (which is mainly freight anyway), 'tis all manually handled and Purple luggage is deliberately put on the conveyors first.

Fascinating, my perception is that MEL is more random about baggage order than PER. And given the the other 'issues' at Perth (dodgy taxi rank to contend with), I find it rather beneficial for my bag to be somewhere early off the belt.
 
My last two trips to Seattle, one from LAX and one from SFO both flights on United, they lost my bags both times for two days, so I am not concerned when my bags arrive on the carousel, just as long as they do arrive. I was staying about 90 mins drive east of Seattle and must admit that UA did look after me by (I think) US$140 on each occasion to purchase a change of clothes and necessary items.

Of course for Canberra, the first two categories account for 80% of the bags.

No wonder I have problems. I must be well down the list. My priority tags are orange when using QF and red when using AY. :confused:

The Business Class Piority Tags are a Light Purple Colour tending to Mauve.

You are correct, the QP tags are a bright Orange, (tending to Yellow).

Bad one really on my part (:oops:) as the First Class Priority Tags are a Bright Yellow.
 
I noticed that since I became a WP, I occasinally get Business Class tags instead of Priority tags. This is quite odd. Anyone else have this happen to you? (I'm neither complaining nor pleased - it seems to make no difference to when the bag comes out at the other end.)
 
For me if i check in QC line you usually get the orange, if i check in at business counters i sometimes get purple.

A WP gets tags equivalent to the highest class of travel on a flight.

MEL-LAX on QF25: Bus Tags as there's no F.

MEL-LAX on QF93: F tags as is't a 3 class flight (F/J/Y).

CNS-DRW on QF1944: Priority (QP) tags as there's no F or J.

Some of the time the staff will be misinformed and put on priority. Or in the case of some stations, say they're out of F or J tags (ie just can't be bothered to go find the stash at the desk next to them).

It's all hit and miss I think. When it works, the system works really well.

Where I am impressed though, is when a Priority or J or F tag finds it's way onto my bag during transit. (ie come from another carrier onto a Qantas flight and doesn't have any Qantas priority tags, and the baggage handlers throw on the Priority/J/F tags. I've noted this in certain Asian countries, but can't think of any other cases where I've had this happen)
 
Interestingly it is entirely random as to which colour tag I get as a WP, and sometimes they forget altogether (usually this invokes Murphy's Law, and if I request a tag it comes out last, and if I don't then it comes out first anyway).

One day I was flying SYD-NAA (Narrabri), and the agent forget the tag initially (and really I didn't care as it all comes out the same trolley), but then remembered and started putting one on, I said not to bother! She was surprised as most travellers insist even for such minor destinations.

Have had this happen transferring from UA to AA to QF. UA checked my baggage through from LKN to MEL, via DEN and LAX. When I collected my luggage at MEL it had a J tag on it.
