Hi all. I have to be at a work conference in Atlanta later this year, and now have to make a brief visit to Dubai for a project while I'm there. Despite being two of the busiest airports in the world, there are no direct flights between the two (yes, I know why!). My time requirements in ATL are pretty tight, and don't mix well with my timetable in DXB. I can only leave after 8pm from ATL, and have to be in DXB before 6am. As such I only have two options, neither of which are really ideal, but may have some WP benefits. I requaled WP after 3mo, so am not trying to maximise points and SCs (on *this* flight anyway, it is something I've had to take for the work team!).

One is DL/KL via AMS. There is either a DL flight to AMS and DL codeshare on KLM metal to DXB, or KLM metal on DL codeshare the whole way. I realise I won't get points and SCs on these (or lounge access), but does anyone know about baggage? I'll be lugging quite a bit of stuff, and if it is DL will i get additional?

The other option is TK. There is the *A connection with SQ, but the earn rates are pretty poor. But it does have better baggage than "normal" KLM.

Anyone have any insights into how VA WPs are treated flying a DL codeshare on SkyTeam metal? (Apologies if it has been answered, couldn't find it in search).

Not at all, you'd have to be on a DL flight number on DL metal to get VA WP recognition. You could do ATL-JFK (DL)-AUH (EY)-DXB (EY bus). Or ATL-Any EY European destination (DL)-AUH-DXB (EY).
