No Spirits (in J) Masquerading as COVID? [Back from Apr 2022]

Did you catch Covid though by having spirits in J? That was the issue on QF, right? ;)

What Mattg is not reporting is that he is now in self isolation for fourteen days as a result of consuming spirits in J. Not to mention he took his mask off to consume said spirits!!

As it happens, I am in fact in self-isolation now as I've just been to Brisbane. However, I had a covid test yesterday and the result came back negative.

So, there you have it @Daver6 - I now have proof that you won't catch covid from drinking spirits in business class!

Unfortnautly we know that one data point does not make a trend. Please take some more trips in J and consume spirits. You can present your findings to the QF board once completed :)

I agree that you need to conduct more research. Quite possibly the consumption of spirits in J prevents Covid. How else do you explain the negative result after visiting Brisbane?

No spirits in J on my SYD-DRW flight yesterday. A friend of mine said he's been told the excuse is that the PPE (masks/wipes) now take up the space in the galley. I could think of less important things to shelve than the spirits 😉

Not quite the same as Alcohol but these emails (and every flight seems to attract one) about upgrade bids always make me smile. Travel in style it says, and not a mask in sight, except for the fine print.

A recent data point, I flew SYD <>OOL last week in J both flights no spirits. I flew J SYD<>MEL with VA week before and spirits on both flights.

I find it pretty ridiculous that QF J is almost always priced higher than VA and they promote themselves as the "premium airline" but spirits isn't even available this long into covid recovery.

Is bar service (Wine/Beer) really not available in J prior to 9am as per the Qantas website? Does this include transcons that leave before 9am but have flight times of 4-5 hours and cross multiple time zones?

Interesting question. I've done a number of early J flights and I know I have been asked about wine with breakfast service but I can't be sure that those questions weren't after 9am. I'm a sun over the yardarm person so have never taken much interest.

Currently on QF 932 which is a 737 from Per-BNE that departed at 0645. Grant Burge was on the cart with breakfast so for those going on holiday, you can start early 😎.

Grant Burge... I guess you CAN, but if you do you should probably post here: 😁

You’re probably right. In the interest of AFF, I also asked (and partook in a Cab Merlot. A Chardonnay was also offered and it’s currently 9:35am WA time (but a respectable 11:30 in Qld). 🥳. Very proactive flight crew on this flight so I’m quite pleased.
