So flight was delayed 1hr from departure due to arriving late....

Then at destination..... on over 40 years of flying never had the pilot say "Due a staffing issue we cannot disembark until they arrange someone to bring the steps to plane!"

20 minutes later.... our bags got off before us!

Two months ago I landed on a Qantas B787 into MEL from SIN. There were no airbridge gates available, so parked at a hard stand. We waited another ¾ hour before they we were able to disembark.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been on an aircraft that parked at an airbridge but we’ve had to wait for someone to drive it. So same situation really.

I can recall maybe three or more times when disembarking was similarly delayed. Once for stairs and at least twice waiting for an aerobridge driver. None of them with JQ.

Oh and also once at PPP because staff weren't allowed on the apron for safety reasons to push the stairs as another plane was parked too close and preparing to depart

During the booking process there’s a handful of optional extras you can select:
- meal
- baggage allowance
- insurance
- hire car at destination
- stairs to disembark

Are you sure you selected the stairs option?

Wouldn't that be part of the airport taxes anyway? ;)

👆 have copped it with waiting for the airbridge to be connected

Didn't pay for that upgrade last Wednesday, VA syd-bne. So 15min wait. Why aren't back stairs an alternative!

I’ve had the no status issues before in Nadi, was an FJ flight and we arrived at gate. Captain announced he’s been told airbridge was broken and that they’d find stairs but his exacts words were “it’s anyone’s guess how long this will take”.

It ended up being almost an hour as we sat and waited.

Not sure the stairs were due to your lack of status

On a SQ 359 this year it took 30 minutes to get the Air bridge. Lucky were on the regional variant and in the second J cabin. Virtually all the J passengers were at the front door but knowing BNE they are almost always going to open the second door first so we were first in line there.
Guessed correctly so we were first off. Only about 5 other J pax after us and then the rush from the rear overwhelmed the FAs so we were well in front of most J pax. And just as well as not far behind us another plane load joined the throng. We got to the machines just before the line got very long.

Nothing to see here. Happens all the time.

For example, recently I flew GVA-FCO on ITA in J. Flight was 75 mins late on departure and arrived quite late too. Parked at a bus stand and the captain told us that the engines couldn't be turned off (old AZ A320), because of a tech fault, so the buses couldn't approach.

Quite a few minutes later, the engines did manage to be shut down so the buses could front up. Then all pax had to disembark down the stairs and get on to the bus before it could leave for the terminal. So being in business class did not help one little bit. Very nearly missed my connection to AUH.
