I'm really enjoying reading about your trip aboard Polarlys! Brings back memories of the awesome time I had onboard.

Day 9 had a few shorter stops for the first part of the day and then a longer stop in Stokmarknes and Svolvær. Another day of clear skies and stunning scenery. Stokmarknes is the headquarters of Hurtigruten and there is a museum there. Part of it is under construction where they're building around an older decommissioned ship. We just went for a walk to the top of a bridge for some amazing views.

Trolls are a big part of Norse mythology. We passed Trollfjord after dark. This is a very narrow fjord with an even narrower entrance. Weather and light permitting, the ships do enter it. We just slowed down and shone the spot light in.

To get in the mood

Apologies for the blurry photo, but it was hand held and really needed to up the exposure time to see much.

We went for a walk around Svolvær. It was dark and pretty quiet. Not far from where we docked was Magic Ice Lofoten. Essentially an ice bar with ice sculptures in a giant freezer (Realistically not too much colder than to was outside). The whole idea seemed a little lame to us, but we had some time to burn and gave it a go. It far exceeded my expectations. The sculptures were incredible and well worth the entry free, which included some coughtail that was served in an edible, frozen goblet.

Day 10. Again lovely weather and had us crossing the Arctic circle southbound. The main stop was after lunch in Brønnøysund. The days were already getting longer and less snow around.

So lets start with the ceremony. First we pass the circle...

Quick explainer on what we get...

Well I better be a good sport...

This stuff has the texture of olive oil. Takes a while for the taste to hit you and it is pretty foul. You don't exactly get rid of that taste out of your mouth quickly either. Oh well, at least it is supposedly good for you.

In Brønnøysund we decided to plot our own walk around town. There were some lakes that took us close to the airport so we just winged it. Was really lovely with a spectacular sunset.

Since we technically went on a hike, a quick stop in a supermarket was in needed in order to acquire a hiking chocolate.

Back on board and sailing on a clear night it was time to blow the froth off a coldie before dinner
