For those of us in MEL taking JQ36 on the monday morning, bad news i'm afraid...

Hot off the email I present to you...

And of course, a check reveals that JQ36 is gone byebyes now. I was moved to JQ504 departing at 0840. I know one other person was similarly moved.

Are others who were F-Lounging it up in MEL moving to this flight? I guess the chance of JQ issuing a refund are zero based on the fact they can get me to SYD at a similar time, although the 0840 departure is not particularly pleasant, given the 0900 JQ36 was already too early IMHO ;)

not impressed JQ!!! I will try and cancel it as it doesn't suit me now!! rather book a JASA on QF at a later time!

That's not good.

It was only a few hours ago that I thought of joining you all for an F lounge run and searched the JQ site but couldn't find the flight.

I was going to post here just as a heads up, but you beat me to it.

I rang up and they were more than happy to cancel and refund my money for me. i moved to a QF flight at 10am QF422.

Looking back to the golden days of travel before the jet age.....

Nov 14
Departs Sydney Terminal (correct name for country platforms at Central) at 10am
Arrives Thirlmere 12.05pm
Departs Thirlmere 3.50pm and arrives back at Sydney Terminal 5.48pm if on schedule.

So we are getting close and time for a couple of questions:
Where does one enter the Sydney train terminal to get to the train?
Where is the Sydney country terminal? :p

There is no cost, but I do ask people to kick something into the can each trip which I pass on to Vinnies before Christmas.

So can you please tell what is actually good canned food for Vinnies? I'd like to purchase some this weekend because I am away next weekend.

Matt
PS, of course like sitting in the lounge, refreshments will be on board.

What can we bring to help with refreshments?

I am so looking forward to this trip.

I think he was referring to dropping money into the penny can...

Awesome. I may drop this and take a fare up on DJ (I don't need the SC's this year anyway). DJ is slightly more, but it'll be a good trial run. Been a long time since i set foot on their metal.

Yes it was. Cancelled no questions asked.. I said I wanted that flight for a reason.

Yeah sorry I got held up over in the thread with Red Roo asking for QFF ideas...

The original CS guy was hopeless. Asked for supervisor, didn't get one but he came back saying "you wanted a refund?" and I used the same reason as you. I was told refund will be forthcoming within 15 days, so we'll see.

Have now changed to a Sunday OMG-O'Clock flight up to SYD on Sunday morning, rather than pay the $250 around the place for a hotel room. Won't miss the train trip though that'll be awesome:)

I'll post the offical timetable when I have it, not processed by the network owner yet. Usually happens about 10 days prior.

Sydney Terminal is the country train section of Central, the train will leave from one of the platforms there, 1 through to 5. Plenty of entrances there into the main concourse where the indicator boards are. (Eddy Ave is a good starting point for out of towners)

Note: there is another heritage train leaving that same morning (earlier) from the same set of platforms.

When you get ther simply walk along the platform until you find the carriage with the number BAM1748 on the side, between the centre set of windows. For people leaving luggage on the train while we have lunch I'll lock up the car so you don't have to wheel it around.

I would say it is the western side of central station.

Google Maps

In this view the Sydney dental hospital side is suburban trains. Medina side country trains. I reckon you need to go to the very western platform (platform 1 ?) as I think you can get onto it without a ticket. I'm sure if you go into the main station building you'll quickly see the train.

Tell red Roo to me, I've got ideas!

They quoted me 10 days, so we'll see.

I still went for a sat flight as I can take my daughter around town during the day.

Can't wait for the ride!!

I copped all kinds of grief until I asked for a supervisor .. CSR seemed a little unsure what I would receive (refund or credit voucher), but seemed relatively confident it would be cxl'ed. Will call Monday to reconfirm.

Have rebooked to DJ845 MEL/SYD 13:15 ... much more civilised time. :) Have a lounge guest spot if there are any takers for a game of pool :D

The timetable is confirmed, we are running over track maintained by two different owners, RailCorp for the metro section and ARTC for the country section, hence two sets of timetables.

There are no ticket barriers at the departure platform itself, simply wander along the train and find BAM1748 written on the side of the car, most likely the third from the front. It will be 'cosy' with the number of people coming which as I said did surprise me a bit, but with some volunteers willing to loiter around the bar we'll have room for everyone.

Now all I have to do is go change a sticking toilet flush valve , replace a twirly ventilator that disappeared mid trip  and put some beers onboard :D.

Another huge thanks for offering to put this trip up to us AFF'ers. I can't wait for the day should be great:)

I too have to withdraw from this event :(

A medical condition wont allow me to go... being dead is quite a serious medical condition and that's what I will be if I go away for the weekend quite soon after returning from Vietnam. Mrs munitalP has spoken, I have listened... !

Have a great time everyone, and thats for the invite BAM

munitalP

In fact, it has got worse - Hanoi was delayed by 2 weeks, now Im away during the event, not even a slim possibility of getting there... have fun all

Happy to volunteer as a loiterer around the bar.

Sad that I can't make this :( I will actually be visiting the Taj Mahal...

Was checking the CC statement for other reasons and couldn't help but notice a line item identifying a refund from Jetstar for my original fare. 1 week after requesting the refund, on a non-refundable fare no less!

V impressed!! :D
