Now Open: New Lounge in MEL

I think we need to arrange an AFF gathering in this new MEL lounge.

Anybody keen? We can work out some dates/times if we get a few interested people.

Sincere congratulations to Virgin Australia on their new lounge. To those (of us) who have whined about the delays - we can see now that some things are certainly worth waiting for.

This is a massive move for Virgin who are showing that Australian airways don't have to belong to a monopoly, and not only will VA pax benefit from this - but no doubt so will QF pax, as QF will need to step up to continue to compete. - Having said that, QF pax who want to benefit sooner could change camps

I am looking forward to Thursday morning for an early flight. As much as I hate those early morning departures - I will be arriving a good couple of hours before my departure time to soak in the new lounge :) No more vouchers for this boy...

Look forward to trying it soon.
Aren't we going to be there this Saturday evening?

I think this is a great idea - it looks better than many a Melbourne coughtail Bar :)

Nice work Virgin Australia - can't wait to see what is next :)

Looks like a great space.... Looking forward to the regular travel from MEL..... Will need to leave plenty of time to enjoy the offerings and score a Walter Knoll chair....

Great job DJ and The Lounge designer Tim Greer from TZG Architects... A real standout result.... :D:D:D

Will have an Introducing Video from Tim and his vision on youtube soon.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys.
Its been an incredible job to have it completed, and the team are super happy with the result.
:D

Possibly the most important question of all: what are the opening times of the bar? I have a stupid o'clock departure to ADL on Saturday morning. Any possibility of having a bubbly brekky in the lounge? ;)

Doh just found my answer on the website... alcohol served from 11am. Would be nice if it's served all day like the barista service, a real one up over QF. ;) *nudges Virgin Australia*

Looks very nice, will have to fly through before the end of the year and check it out! Though I’ll wait for the BNE lounge to open first and do both, or maybe fly via SYD and do all three.

Settle Liam, you’ve yet to come to any events that are already arranged ;)

I wonder if there are licensing issues with having a venue serve alcohol before 11? Obviously it can be done, but might require a more expensive or special license? Any liquor licensing experts know the answer?

In any case, I'm about to jump over and book a flight for Wednesday morning now, so very much looking forward to the new lounge!

Looks like I'll just have to ensure that I fly at wine o'clock in future! Sadly my next 2 Virgin flights are early morning departures. :(

I have a flight out of PER near midnight in June so hopefully the new wine list is available over in the PER Lounge.

I'm sure 11am is early enough (it is for me) :)

I only drink alcohol that early (or earlier) when in the International lounges when all bets are off. After all, I'm sure it's after midday where I'm going so I use it as an excuse to switch to the timezone of my destination :D

And remember, QF don't open their bars until midday (J lounges) or after 2pm for the rest. I'm sure that was taken into consideration.

Look I was making a really good point until you muddled it up with facts and logic...:-|:p There's no 'correct' time for bubbly and after all it's always 5pm *somewhere*! ;)

Just annoyed that I let myself be talked into booking early morning flights to begin with....

Nice addition if you don't have a charger on you....

Duracell myGrid charge mats are located in communal areas, with attachments available from the reception or service desk for your iPhone, BlackBerry and other popular mobile devices.

Definitely interested! I'm not back in .au until the 2nd of June, so would obviously prefer if we waited until after then .. :p

Only thing missing from the lounge is a childrens section / kids' play area, aka Koru Club in NZ or Qantas Club...

Looking forward to trying it next week when in Melbourne with my Priority Pass. Hoping they don't change access for Priority Pass members now that it is looks so flash:)

How stupid-o-clock is it? I just booked a trip up on Sat morning to check it out (coming back on JQ35 for some F Lounge time).

Anyone interested in a MEL-SYD-MEL Day trip? And we can catch up with QF009 at the same time on the outbound:)

We're booked on DJ211, the 7.05am departure to ADL. We're road tripping it back to re-stock the grog cupboard. :D
