Now Open: New Lounge in MEL

Maybe a piano in the corner, with someone singing soft, sultry tones? Dim the lighting a little as the evening goes on? :D

Eh... that doesn't quite gel with the decor. Pianos and elevator music are SO Qantas. Am thinking along the lines of sexy DJ (no pun intended) and groovy, low tempo yet upbeat and relaxing tunes!

Ah, so perhaps something more along the lines of Cafe del Mar?

I had in mind STK. Great example of how a stiflingly conventional and hardly fashionable setting, in this case a steakhouse can be turned on its head.

Just had to google that as I had no idea what you were talking about. But I see what you mean! That looks awesome, and I just added it to my list of places to go next time I'm in NYC.

My first visit to the new lounge and WOW... Well worth the wait for the refurb... Great space ..... But I am officially addicted to the little cookie bites..... Mmmmm cookies....

Hi All,

I was in MEL Lounge on Wed afternoon / evening and I can say it looked great.

Disappointed no spirits :( although great NZ wine :D

Couple of things I believe should be addressed:

I first sat at the long bar style table (down on the far left of The Lounge) on the bar stools but found it uncomfortable due to not being able to sit close to the table as you can't tuck your legs so I moved to the bench seating.

Seating around the tables at the end of the bench seating needs to be moved to allow people to use the bench seating, a little hard but ok. As it currently is if people are using the seating at the desks you cannot use the bench seating and for those at the desks its hard to actually have your carry on luggage next to you due to space restrictions.

The TVs were all turned down so you couldn't hear them. Rather pointless if you ask me.

Menu appears to be pretty much the same as it has been in the past.

I also noted that due to being busy people using laptops and their phones were all vying for the limited powerpoints at each desk. I only notice either 2 powerpoints at the 4 seat desks or 3 powerpoints at a 6 seat desks.

In my opinion the seating arrangements were a little uncomfortable.

my 2 cents worth.

I'd prefer the TVs to have no sound and have the TTS subtitles on the screen instead. If I'm not watching a show, I'm not really interested in listening to it either.

I'd rather some quiet background music as previously mentioned.

The TV sound was on this morning, but because the lounge was very quiet, the TV sound was very noticeable and probably a little too loud.

When I was in on Saturday it was nice and peaceful until a group asked for the TV sound to be turned up and suddenly the whole lounge was 'enjoying' the AFL (yes, I know its Melbourne). Now, I don't mind a bit of AFL, but why should the whole lounge have to listen to something that only a few people were watching? The sound really did travel through the whole lounge. I'd much prefer no sound on the TV and some mellow background music.

Hey mate, chill out a bit and just go with the flow. It could as well have been a Tennis, F1, Rugby, Socker, Baseball, Grid Iron, Hockey, Polo, Curling, Midget Throwing, Motor Cross, Penguin Island Moto GP, Tour de xx_ Bicycle race, Iron Man, Bells Beach Surf Classic, Master Chef, Survivor xx_, Great Race xx_, You Think you can Dance, You Think You have Talent, Opera, Soap Opera, ABC 24 Hour News, etc Grand Final or what ever hits your excitement stimulus.

Just grab a cold Beef, Champs, White or really good Red (not too cold) or 2, chill and enjoy. I mean it will not be that long until your flight is called and you are back with your family and friends.

Or watch "Up In The Air" and join us Status Runners for a drink or two in the Lounge:

Nice spotting the soap!

GROWN is an Australian made and owned range of organic bioactive skin care products that we are quite chuffed to have included in the Lounge at Melb, Sydney and Brisbane when it opens. (Looking at the other Lounges too)

I'm pretty sure this is the stuff in the J-cabin WC on the A330 too...

Fancy schmancy ;)

Any chance we can get a sandwich press or even a grill behind the counter, got a hankering for a tasted cheese/tomato/ham sandwich this morning! As always good coffee and still available right now ;), unlike the "club" over the other side.

I hope VAust refurbishes all Lounges expeditiously. I was at the PER Lounge last night and it felt poverty stricken by comparison.

I wouldn't expect Perth or Canberra to be high on the list for refurbs. In both cases they are moving into brand new terminals in the next few years so they probably aren't going to spend a lot of money of renovations. With Perth i would have thought they would have done it with the a330 launch if they were going to do it before the new terminal opens. Still, you never know -- maybe if it's popular and there's space for expansion?

I just wish we had a VA lounge in DRW!!!

If they did have one, i'd happily pay to be a member and use it more...
