Now You're Flying Virgin Australia

It dosen't bother me either, Virgin are going for a specific look, and they've achived it.

However, its subject to your personal view, some may take offense to it.

I don't have a problem with it myself either. Each to their own l guess and l also respect people for their own views.

(At least VA have a flag on their planes....)

I don't get the fuss over the colour (or lack of) of the flag, and I'd hardly call it a desecration. That term belongs to the tens of thousands of ignorant white European citizens's who sport a Southern Cross tattoo as if it were a modern day swastika, flying in the face of multiculturalism and completely forgetting that this land isn't their own (or even theirs originally).

We all know the colour of our flag and what it stands for. That should be enough in my eyes.

She flies the flag well, I say! The Lounge entry looks fantastic.

What we really need is for a new startup airline with the Eureka Flag as its logo.

"Bogan Airlines: we grew here, you flew here, now we're gonna fly you back."

Only white-bread Aussies get op-ups plus double status credits if they show a Eureka flag tattoo.

What about all those who rallied around the flag in the era of black and white printing? I'm sure many were called and served via pamphlets, documents, newspaper articles, official paperwork or inspired by newspaper photographs that were in black and white.

Ever seen the historic images at any major museum of war memorial?

The Australian flag has been depicted in black and white, grey scale, and one colour representations for longer than there has been an official Australian flag. Odd to take offence at it now!

Once again I find it curious that there is no set open date for the lounge.......

FFS, it's open when it's open. Useless to set an open date, finish early, then have it sit idle. Likewise, it's bad if you announce a date, then something comes up and it goes beyond that date. I'm sure if they did announce a date and something untoward happened you'd be the first to complain.

*taking the bait*

An interesting thing - the Flags Act doesn't actually specify colours, aside from talking about the 'blue flag' and the 'red flag'. It goes into intricate details of the size and placement of each of the stars, but nothing of the colours.

(Personally, I don't see anything that constitutes desecration of the flag)

No it's not bait I was making a statement...... Thanks for also telling me how I'd be the first to complain....

Umm if a date is set and it finishes early, they open early...... Not that hard to do..
If a date is set and it opens late, that's part of construction and VA would receive compensation for the delay.... and I WOULD understand a delay.

You might not, but I'm sure pleanty of others would line up to complain the lounge was not open on the specified date.

True, but I know of several people annoyed the lounge is closed and not happy with the vouchers and they are flying Qantas instead because of the lounge closure....

Strange.... But again my main reason for  is that I will be in the MEL Lounge (hopefully) about 10 times in the next few weeks... and want it to be open

I don’t see an issue with it, but think there should be a colour flag somewhere on the aircraft, perhaps at the back like Qantas.

I think the flag on the wingtips would be great - like Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America.

Works better on the Airbus wingtips though, rather than the big ones on the 737's.

The temporary-lounge-closure-voucher-issuing-angels this morning said it would be open within 1-2 weeks.

Judging by the construction site smell that is still lingering (the smell of cutting concrete and the like) I think 1 week in may be optimistic though...2 weeks a maybe.

Thanks!

Must be fairly major works then and not just new carpet and chairs, so should be great when open!

Yeah hopefully - if the photo from earlier is anything to go by it should be good! (Assuming that's the Melbourne lounge entrance...)

VA rep, what lounge is this, MEL or BNE? You don't have to tell us when it will be open although that would be very nice.

Apologies, I should've said that this is actually Sydney, which is of course open.
Has anyone seen it yet?

As far as open dates for Melbourne and Brisbane, hopefully this info, isn't too far away (sorry!)
(it takes a while for that newly cut concrete smell to dissipate ;))

The flying lady in Silver is useless.

What do you think the use of the coloured version was and why is this diminished by the monotone? It's simply a Virgin Group "tradition" to have the flying lady and it has been decided to retain but downplay it on the fuselage (a splash of colour would detract from the overall scheme) while using it more in other contexts such as the new Lounge entry (see photo elsewhere in the thread).

Honestly, you are desecrating the Australian flag, and everything it stands for unless you put it in colour.

I hesitated about pointing this out, but the existing VA livery has a representation of the Australian flag in shades of silver - see the Union Jack and Southern Cross on the fuselage (besides the obvious Southern Cross on the tail) Photos: Boeing 777-3ZG/ER Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net
