Obtaining a visa for Chile

Following the link provided. SAG: Declaración Jurada and using Google to translate, it does seem like a required form. However getting to about the third page, I find yo can only do it within 48 hours of arrival.

When I arrived in Chile from Australia, I scanned the QR code as I went to immigration and filled it out while waiting in the queue.

I got an e-mail with a PDF of my declaration. No-one asked to see it when I exited customs in the green lane - but there were customs people at the exit talking to others.

I've just filled out the form again on my laptop, and received the PDF e-mail on my phone, which i will use when I re-enter Chile from Uruguay tomorrow.

Same here but the customs people at the exit were talking to each other and looked at me as if I was interrupting them when I presented my printout

Apparently these fun and games are reserved for Australia. If you have a passport from one of the blue countries (dual citizen with Australia) you can avoid it.

We must have really pi@@ed them off somehow. They got the $$ previously via the 'reciprocity fee' on arrival. The visa must cost them more to administer.

Received transit visa about 24 hours before check in closed for a flight to SCL last week. Applied about 6 weeks prior in Melbourne, not an experience I'd want to repeat.

So for those playing at home (and heading to Chile soon or planning to), we applied on line nominating the SYD consulate and we were approved/processed fairly quickly - especially noting the time of year!

22Dec23 - submitted online application
28Dec23 - confirmation email that application was successfully received
05Jan24 - application successfully processed - “send money” email received
11Jan24 - money sent
16Jan24 - Visa email received (which was quicker than the 5 biz days advised).

Excellent to hear, @SYD . Only funny thing there is the delay between submitting application and receipt of the e-mail saying its been received. Thought it was automatic.

Can anyone recall, in the application process, if you can choose the consulate you want to be processed in, or does it allocate depending on your address?

There are system generated emails as you create and then submit the applications - which are immediate.

The 3rd email is telling you that the Consulate has reviewed it. Presumably confirming the photo and provided details are ok.

It gave me the choice between syd, melb or Brisbane. Canberra is exclusively for ACT residents I believe, and they seem to get their visas processed virtually overnight.

Date visa required 25/5/24
Date Application submitted; 13/1/24 I used the hotel's details in Valparaiso as the contact. I sent 3 months of a personal account with about 600 bucks in it and minimal transactions. I picked an occupation reasonably close; to be honest I got annoyed scrolling through multiple pages of obscure occupations and just picked a close one.
Date/s follow-up with Consulate (if required); Not required. A processing email was received 17/1/24
Date Visa issued; Payment due email was received 19/1/24, which is due WITHIN 90 days of arrival, so I will be paying that in late February. You must enter within 90 days of visa issuance.

That sounds like you got your Visa and then you had 90 days to pay afterwards. Is that right? Or the email just say visa approved and please pay

I selected Sydney as I was travelling to Sydney a few times and thought I could go in if any problems.
Below is what I received, stating payment is due within 90 days of arrival, as entry has to be within 90 days of visa issuance. The visa issues in 5 days after payment.

"Your Tourist Visa Application for Chile has been successfully received by this Consulate General.

In order to issue your Electronic Visa, please transfer/deposit the fee of A$176.00 - WITHIN 90 DAYS OF YOUR ARRIVAL IN CHILE - into our following Westpac Bank account:

BSB: xx_xx. Account N° xx_xx_xx in the name of Consulate General of Chile.



Use SAC N° xx_xx_x and your name as reference. When we confirm receipt of these funds we will process your E-Visa, in 5 working days, and send it to you by email.



Please do not reply to this email, unless you have not received your visa in 5 working days.



Once the Visa has been paid for, we cannot refund your payment and you must enter Chile within 90 days. "

Thanks. That reflects what others have experienced for Sydney. The Melbourne e-mails are different in wording and timing. Bizarre.

Not sure. Ours say that also, after I received the payment request email. I am just waiting to enter the 90 day period pre travel before I make payment.

Basically it’s been sighted and processed. Expect the request for payment soon.

I'm pretty sure its not required. I was supposed to transit though on my first arrival in Sth America last year, but Qantas delayed my inbound to SCL (gave 36 hrs notice) so I would have missed the connection, so I had to overnight at SC and catch the onward flight the next day; therefore I can't say for sure, sorry. Fortunately I had obtained a multiple-entry visa so entering was not a problem.

The new SCL international terminal is pretty stock-standard, and pretty big. You would disembark, faff around in the duty free or lounges, then go on to your connection, as far as I can tell.

It's so bizarre that Canada, UK, USA, even Indonesia passport holders can visit Chile visa free but Australia can't, unless you have APEC card
