I think it means no annual fee as long as this account is open, and you will need to pay annual fee if you change to another account, example downgrade to silver or upgrade to platinum.

And you should not post things like this. You are giving Citibank ideas again!!! ;)

 I think this expression is just a little bit uncommon.

With a bad start, it seems my Citibank gold card application is nearly done.

I had a call today after they had called my employer, telling me she had processed my application, and that I should receive something in the mail in the next few business days.

I RECOMMEND PEOPLE DON'T APPLY AT NIGHT TIME as it seems the Citibank system goes down for backup every night and there is no warning until you submit your application.

my first posting...
I've been following this thread with great interest coz I'm currently with CBA Awards (my first credit card- no annual fee as tertiary student, but thinking of ditching it next yr when fees start getting charged...pointless rewards anyway, and there's a ridiculous interest rate of 18.4% )

my question is:
  1. do u reckon I could qualify for the Citibank Gold no annual fee for life when I don't currently earn the min $25K yet (since still studying full-time)? I've been with my part-time employer for 3yrs+ and earn pro-rata of $35K income pa- is that compelling enough for Citibank to approve me? If not, does anyone know if the offer is likely to extend until next year (when I will commence working fulltime)?
  2. I'm not currently a Qantas FF member, so what sort of other rewards will the Citibank Gold qualify me for? tried to look it up on their site but no luck. However, I am an Asia Miles member (current balance 22,000 points from travel alone, so keen to add to it if possible thru credit card spending if possible), as well as Kris Flyer (current balance 6,000 points expiring next yr...grateful if any tips for converting/doing anything useful with it, as not likely to be travelling Singapore Airlines anytime soon.)
Thnx!

Holly,

I think overstating your income is very risky as odds on they will check with your employer. I think you are better off going for the Silver card as it has a $20K income requirement (the Gold card is $35K+). Same conditions and benefits AFAIK, apart from lacking the probably dodgy international travel insurance.

Also the FF point transfer is limited to the Qantas program, with the only other way to get reward flights being through the Take Flight program with Harvey World Travel. These are not as good value as QFF points at 1-for-1, at least not for existing members, and won't help you with your current schemes.

If you don't want to risk the website (Note - code for Silver Visa is 001 EDPA66YA and Silver Mastercard is 002 EDPA66YA), you can always call them on 13 15 94. So far I've found them to be pleasant to deal with, but YMMV.

Good Luck,

Andrew

Not that it really matters (compared to a no fee Citibank card!) but they've started advertising 9500 Qantas FF points for applying for a gold card (with the annual fee and a 6.9% balance transfer deal)

Citibank Australia

Looks like they are keen to get new members using whatever bait the new member will accept!

Thankyou for the link Beardoc and others.
My Gold MC arrived yesterday (application time 7 days), when I rang to activate card they tried to sell me their insurance product but not interested. "Did i need a second card" - thankyou and no fees on that for life either, cheap option for my partner.
Very nice :p
Thankyou to all the posts as well.

Holly - they did check with my employer so income stretching is not an option, I would do silver and keep the limit down, I have fond memories of paying my first credit card off after uni - took a couple of years but the memories were memorable!:-|

Cheers Andy
PS I think I can now leave the Amex at home

The fine Print.
Transferred balances will be repaid first. Any transaction made other than with this offer are at 18.99%p.a., which is variable, subject to change and Citibank's credit criteria.
I understand this to mean, additional normal charges will be charged at 18.99% if the total (balance transfer + additional charges) is not paid off by the next month. - others may wish to comment.

Cheers

Mr. wombatcountry applied for a ReadyCredit card in July, taking advantage of a special airport offer of 10000 QF points upon first charge. It took a couple of months and several calls to get it approved (he's self-employed), but he used it a few times about a month ago, and in another month the 10K should post. For those who might not be familiar with this product, ReadyCredit is not a regular credit card, in that transactions with it require a pin, and it doesn't offer ongoing QF points for each $ spent, only the initial 10K bonus.
Now that the Woollies card is no longer that useful, Mr. wombatcountry would like to apply for the Citi Gold no annual fee. So, here is the question: does Citibank consider these two product similar enough that it is likely they will reject his application on the grounds that he has another Citi card? Does anyone have any relevant experience about this?

Pretty much, and certainly not uncommon on such offers. Anyone taking up the low rate balance transfers would be well advised not to purchase anything on the card till they have paid the balance transfer off.

Woops, bit late for that now :-). Seems to have worked OK though.

One thing I noted on the final 'By clicking submit I confirm that...' page did concern me though:

4. I will be billed at a later date for an annual account fee of:
- $119 for the Gold Visa Primary Card and $30 for the Gold Visa Additional Card

Now, did anyone else get this clause and then find that their letter of acceptance had the no fee part? I did apply for the partner card, so I'm expecting to cop the $30.
If they do try and charge me the $119 though, I guess I'll be spending some time on the phone to someone somewhere in Asia.

We shall see.

Hi

Just wondering how did you managed to apply for the card while you already have another one? Did you do something different, other than clicking the link and applying through it?

Cheers
No........;)

The deal includes a free additional card as well, so you shouldn't be paying for the extra card at all, not even $30/year for it! They will try to make you pay it, but if you have signed up on the right deal, argue the point and they'll do it for free.

Hmm, the on-line application link ".../gold_nofee_D.htm" didn't mention anything about partner cards so I assumed that I would be forking out $30. No idea if I signed up on the 'right deal' so, when(if?) the bill comes in I shall argue the point.
Did you apply via the original link? Or was there another offer from somewhere?

Thanks,
mt

I applied through the link on this site, and both my primary and the extra cards for my gf are showing $0 annual fee.

I have been calling India a lot lately because they are screwing up my account big time again (they do this to me once every 18 months), and I have been asked, the last 2 times, if I would like to get extra cards for someone because it would be free of annual fee.

This is the only thing the operators there get it right

There was nothing actually mentioned in the original sign up sheet, but it will come back as $0 for the additional card. It should be confirmed with your letter of offer which you'll receive in your welcome pack.

If it doesn't say $0 for an additional cardholder, I would ring them and argue the point.

Ta for that, hopefully all be well in the letter of offer. Now to wait and see what happens...

This worries me. If you go to the link quoted here on this forum, you get the offer, but going via the citibank home page to cc promotional offers, it doesn't appear.

When you go to the link, and apply, it comes up with the standard application form for citbank visa gold and mastercard gold. I am not too keen to click 'accept' or 'submit' on a $119 fee when it is mean to be free.

Is it certain the offer is still open and how does citibank know you have come via what appears to be an old link?

Another question: does the offer apply to mastercard as well? It only mentions visa.

Neither was I. But I figure that there was no end date on the application. I have a PDF of the original application and the date by which it was captured. If Citi want to argue the point and refuse to yield, I will simply bin the card and not activate it.
Based on what others have told me, the letter of offer will confirm everything.
The call centre chap I spoke to yesterday asked me if I did order online, so I think they should be able to get it right.

As for Citi knowing if the link is still valid, that's their problem. I have acted in good faith, the link was on the Citi site and thus they should either honour it or let me withdraw for nothing. That's what I'll arguing anyway :-) As for MC, No idea on that one.

Are you using this link? Citibank Gold Card

It still appears active when I click on it. When I click "apply now" it gives a choice of Mastercard or Visa.

If you are going to the Citibank homepage and trying to find a link from there, you probably won't. I tried that when initially applying. Eventually I applied using the above link and everything went OK, I have the card fee free for life.

Yes, just make sure you click using the link in this thread, and that the first page that comes up is a page that confirms the No Fee offer.

I received my card yesterday. It includes a confirmation fee schedule page which lists $0 annual fee and $0 additional cardholder annual fee.
