Going to finish 2014 4 nights short of Diamond ....

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

Similar dilemma, ~ $500 USD (600AUD) short of making diamond again. A task made harder with fall in the AUD.
If I may ask AFF community, anyone out there coming over to Adelaide Hilton and happy to do a trade? i.e. I will book one night myself to coincide with last night of whatever stay your doing, met you at Hilton to check-out and combine the rooms onto my folio as can have 2 rooms. I am happy to compensate for the lost HH points with some Qantas points or some other means? Can pick up some cheap room nights now to make it tolerable but not exorbitant.

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

Not so much cost the issue...more the spending another 4 nights away from home.

Anyone staying to split cost and credit to me??

Regards,

BD

I would be happy to do that but all my remaining stays this year are pre-payed :(

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

Woe indeed. I have one more stay to maintain HHD, so am not in a position to "trade".

Going to finish 2014 4 nights short of Diamond ....

But there are still 3 Hilton properties in Melbourne to do a MR. No need to stay overnight, just check-in.

Have you checked out the Doubletree Melbourne deal via Travelzoo at present $131 for a single occupant per night. Is Diamond worth $524 to you?

OK...question time... is HHD worth $500??

All other stays have been on company dime, this would be my own.

Guaranteed exec lounge access vs hopeful upgrade to an exec room.
Better class of upgrade.
Breakfast (which your work may cover anyway)

Your decision, but I would look upon it favourably.

If you plan another ~25 stays next year then you basically add $20 per stay to get lounge access and better upgrades. I would say it's worth it.

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

:/ sorry, my stays also are all pre-paid. I'd like to help you out next time if you need something.

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

Hi Boomy, exactly the point 25 stays at $20 is cost neutral. Problem for BD and me it is after tax $$$ being spent now so actual cost is ~ 40% higher. Most of mine came through work. So free breakfast is irrelevant as would have this paid for. I do have a trip to Conrad Bali next year and likely back to Conrad Maldives late next/early 2016. Diamond means nothing over Gold at Maldives. Not sure what I'd get at Bali as already booked Conrad suite room.
Diamond is a nice have not a must have is what I am saying. Certainly with AUD heading to 0.75 I can kiss goodbye doing diamond via spend. Have managed last 3 years. This fourth is proving tight.
Hence, if I can tie in with someone already committed then it's tolerable to spend least amount to achieve it. Even if prepaid it would not matter I would have thought as you can consolidate rooms on to one folio.

With only those planned stays, I would say that Diamond is not worth it for you, and unlike QF etc, requal is not easier than obtaining the status. In the Maldives the difference is extremely marginal- possibility of an upgrade if overbooked in a category etc. Same with Bali if you have booked the Suites, you may just get a better upgrade.

Does the lounge access mean much to you? You would have to value it as above, so I guess it depends on whether you drink, like lounges and how much the company would allow you to put on its dime normally.

have only achieved diamond recently( courtesy of Macquarie) and really keen to keep it. we think the effort is worth the extra benefits. Also any missing stays are dealt with overnight by a dedicated Diamond-helper.. So cool

Does the Macquarie card pay points for ATO payments? If it does could divert some payments to achieve HHD?

Why is Hilton in Australia stingy?

In Asia a Hilton Gold is almost guaranteed lounge access and breakfast.

I have no need to stay in hotel but would be happy to check-in for anyone in Brisbane that needs a few nights to qualify Diamond.

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

Very kind offer JohnK. I would do the same if I were in a position to do so.

re: Oh, woe! [finish year 4 nights short of Diamond]

I am in a similar position (28 stays/ 40 nights) but i decided to give the diamond desk a call.

And to my surprise I was told by the agent I don't require anymore stays to meet diamond requirement for next year and I am fine until Mar 2016. She even double confirmed it with another helpdesk and they confirmed the same as well.

Was planning to check in tonight to a CAT 1 hotel but I guess I can drop that plan now. Anyone think otherwise?

Agent told me she has notated our conversation as well in system to prevent any dispute next year.

Y

Slightly different position for y'self cgoh, in that you're already Diamond and have a D-line number to call. Out of curiosity how did you frame the question?
