Ok, so why does everyone continue to bag Qantas?

The unlimited transfer within the UK is limited to F passengers ( and not for those on consolidated fares ) .

J ( and F consolidated ) only gets 65 miles from LGW/LHR/BHX and 100 miles from MAN/GLA. Unlike CX, EK do make it quite clearly seen on the website that they provide it whilst CX seems to work on people's psychic abilities to know that they can get one.

It would be interesting to see the reaction from EK for car service from Belfast to London ( much more fun than mainland UK :) )

Dave

How can I get info on the CX offer? Is it on the CX website, or do I need to call them? I'll be flying CX LHR to SYD on Wednesday, in J, so this could be a nice bonus.....

I haven't been able to find it on the CX website. When I heard about it, I called the London reservations office on +44 20 8834-8888 and spoke to them.

It seems that some res staff there think it only applies to Full Fare only ( which was ok for me ) but those on other published fares ( such as DONEx or AONEx ) are entitled to them. ( I know someone using it on a DONE4 in the next few days ). The free transfer is 40 driven miles from the airport with excess miles at GBP2 per mile

Just as well I have a policy where I try to be one of the last to board aircraft and even then I find that sometimes I am waiting in the aisle for 5 minutes to get to my seat because the queue has stopped moving due to people trying to find overhead locker space for their 3 or 4 carry on bags.

This is exactly where you suffer from the problem. Like you, I don't see the point in standing in a long queue, so I like to be close to last. So you get on to find the lockers full, your bag ends up 20 seats further back. Try recovering it when it's time to get off.

For this reason I no longer wait until the end.

I think we are getting well off the thread, so seeing I started this direction, I'll try to start a new thread on this topic.

I have managed to fine tune my international checked luggage down to ~18 kgs for outbound flights and ~22 kgs for inbound flights. I hardly ever have any carry-on so I do not care about overhead locker space. I am usually sitting in an aisle seat so I prefer to board last but this plan backfires waiting for people trying to find overhead locker space for their multiple carry on bags. Still I think I am better off sitting 20 minutes extra at gate than sitting on a stuffy aircraft waiting for people to board.

I would very surprised if a thread on AFF did not get off-Topic!

Should I ask what the xtra four kilo's are that you are carrying back from SE Asia

And I do hope you mean an extra 20 mins in the lounge rather than at the gate!

Totally innocent. Every trip I bring back silk material for my mother, various silk scarves and souvenirs for family and friends. With the silk material my mother normally makes skirts or blouses for herself and sometimes she gives some to her friends.

With gates closing 15-20 minutes earlier these days I did mean spending time at the gate and not the lounge. Small sacrifices!

Is it highland silk or the silk you get from the Bangkok markets. I remember when I was working in Cambodia that I bought some highland (Cambodian) silk and there was a noticeable difference.
Where do you buy your silk from and can you get threads as well. Ok this is from SO as we will be briefly in BKK for our honeymoon.

Yes she is proud of me! But not because of any gifts I buy for her but because I am her son. I would not dream of travelling somewhere without bringing a gift back for my mother. The gift does not need to be expensive, it is the thought that counts.

I thought I was the one casting aspertions NM ;)

ANyway back on the topic of how bad QF are :P

It is authentic Thai silk but not sure if it is highland silk. There are about 177 different varieties of silk, maybe more, and yes you can generally tell the difference between pashmena silk or pure thai silk. I have purchased 4-5 varieties of thai silk. I keep trying to purchase a new style on every trip, some expensive, some not so expensive.

Unfortunately I am not an expert. A good quality silk scarf is around 400 baht and I normally purchase from a stall in Big C complex in Pathumwan near Chit Lom BTS station. Yet you could purchase some expensive thick fabric scarves for around 1600 baht per piece. Silk fabrics by the yard can vary in price from 180 baht per yard to 5,000+ baht per yard.

As for silk threads send me a PM with the exact details and I will have a look on my next trip in 3 weeks time.

Exactly was my thought John; as a mother myself, I always treasure my kids attention, even if just a little kiss when I am exhausted (or unwell).:p

Back to the topic now,
I personally will never say "I'm bagging Qantas (or any other airlines in that matter) until I have my own plane :p

The arrogant attitude of Qantas 131313 persons sometimes do get to me, but hey, as said above, as long as I do not have my own plane, I will try my best to behave.:p

Thanks for that info. It doesn't look like I will have a chance to use it on this trip, but will next time!

On Dec 27th travelling on the QF71 PER-SIN flight the CSM personally introduced himself to me, welcomed me on board and said if I wanted anything not to hesitate to ask.

I was stunned as I am only a OneWorld sapphire. As I was seated in 23J on the A333 I didn't look back to see how many people got a personal introduction.

Nothing special in the grand scheme of things but it means a lot to me. Thank you Qantas.

This happened to me when flying LHR - HKG with the family in April. Personal introduction, anything we can do etc. We thought it might be because of the 9 month old, but maybe its part of the program now.

Hasn't happened from SYD to WLG though!

Depends totally on the crew that is on the plane. I average 1 out of 3 flights that I'm welcomed and spoken too. really just depends on the person.
Had it happen on CX in economy a number of times too but never, never had it on BA.

More often than not for me on BA.......
