Ok, so why does everyone continue to bag Qantas?

I was stunned as I am only a OneWorld sapphire. As I was seated in 23J on the A333 I didn't look back to see how many people got a personal introduction.

Nothing special in the grand scheme of things but it means a lot to me. Thank you Qantas.

I wonder if it was QF SG rather OWS that gave rise to it. Been a while since I flew QF so I cant recall what welcome message I got.

Flying F in CX of course we got the welcome - but I think J on CX it was Mr Simongr all the way - but I dont recall a CSM hello.

A year ago mrs serfty and I flew QF71 to SIN from PER (23J/K). We received the WP treatment including J bubbly and cheese. ;)

Even got a visit of the A333 crew rest facility (between the coughpit and the J galley).

The other day I was in McDonald's purchasing a burger. Not only did the thoughtful attendant ask me whether I would like to add "fries" to my order (perhaps realising that a burger was not much sustenance on its own), but then, even though I turned down the offer of the additional purchase, she said that she would like me to "have a nice day".

Honestly I didn't realise that I frequented that particular establishment enough to warrant the personal attention, but it was a nice touch.

Not sure that the CSM was trying to entice you to pay for an upgrade to First on the off chance that you hadnt thought about that at the original time of booking? Did they say "Have a nice day, Mr in CBR"?

Alan in CBR - I don't think it counts in MacDonalds unless it was "Have a nice day, Alan". Certainly your meal wasn't going to make much of a contribution towards it!!!

On the risk of going back on topic, I must have missed this thread in my irregular readings  .

A lot of us here have been (or still are) Platinums with QF, however like NM said on the first page, whilst many of us have no trouble with the service that QF offers, some of us have turned away from the QFF scheme and gone elsewhere because of better value in the F schemes.

Like the OP, I still believe the full service QF product is head and shoulders above the competition (because they are not full service and couldn't be expected to match QF's standards).

Sorry I cannot answer that one as it was the first time I have ever been personally welcomed on board.

Many, many moons ago when the QFF scheme took off, almost all QFF/QP members gets a personal welcome aboard by the purser (who have with him a list of the members and their seating including those in Y):D .
Nowadays.....??? Probably gets a personal greeting if in F!

I'm sitting in the first class lounge in AKL at the moment, awaiting QF190 which is delayed - reasons unknown...
I flew to NZ on QF25 on Monday, I then flew NZ AKL / WHK which was cancelled at the last minute and was flown to ROT and told a bus would be supplied for the remaining part of the journey. This morning I flew WHK / AKL on NZ. At no time during my NZ flights did I get greeted by my name except for an announcement over the intercom "passengers N (that’s me), X , Y and Z traveling to Whakatane on flight....."

On the same token....

Melbourne, first check in, "Mr. N, welcome back etc..."
Qantas Club, "Mr. N, welcome, please use the door on the left...."
On the plane...."Mr. N, welcome, please enjoy your flight, can I get you anything before we take off..."
At the Qantas club this morning, "Mr. N, welcome, first class lounge through that door, please make yourself at home..."
And still waiting for my flight, I don't expect any different level of service once I get on the plane.
OK, I'm flying in business at the moment, however, I do more than my share of economy flights and except for the in seat service such as meals and drinks, the Qantas service is not that bad whichever class you fly.

For all the sensitive types out there who don’t get the first name treatment I advise you before you travel next to make a large introduction badge stating your name, preference to nick name or first name, maybe a flashing neon to attract attention and advice to whoever reads the badge that you are sensitive to being addressed by first name, and like to be treated as far more than a number (bearing in mind that by the time everyone onboard has been treated this way, the planes likely to be running 2 -3 hours late and this will be another reason for you to complain) and don’t forget to wear it…. Or…. Get over it, remember you are one of up to 350 people onboard, your turn will eventually come around, or if you can’t handle this, buy a business / first class ticket and know you are going to get the kudos you so desperately seem to be seeking…

Now back to important things, I wonder when some more smoked salmon will be out at the serving area…?

Whoa! MunitaIp, that was pretty hard hitting. :!:
Hope it was not targetted specifically at me. I was merely pointing out an observation that was experienced over first, business and economy flights over many years.
These days, I get on the plane, I bring my own preferred bottle of mineral water (when allowed), sit, get my book out and start reading. Does not matter which airlines I am on, I do the same, so all these pampering does not mean much and at times can be distracting!

This is the sort of level of service that should be noted; if only McDs had the equivalent of the old AA SOSs to give to those providing good service. I am impressed that they remembered that the last time you visited and ordered the burger that you also had fries and so thought you might want them again

Way to go McDs

Wow! Something positive is mentioned and the responses are typical of what i would expect from the people frequenting FT. I paid a compliment to QF for the nice and unusual service I received and there are some who felt the need to shoot this down in flames. I guess we should merge AFF and FT so that some of the misfits who responded should not feel left out.

Comparing McDonald's service to QF service is like comparing chalk and cheese. Same goes for KFC. I go to KFC and order a large potato and gravy and I am asked if I would like fries with that. Go figure!

I didn't have a go at you, in fact, if anything, I was backing your argument (if any) in a very obtruse way. My whole point was not to have a go at anyone in particular but to point out if you want first class service, pay for it... IF you want business class service, pay for it... if you want economy class service (and for all you wingers out there, go look up the meaning of economy in the dictionary), thats what you paying for.

If the stewards single you out and say hello etc... take it for what it is, a compliment passed, say hello back, be nice back. If no one on the fight crew says hello, again (read my last post), get over it... don't get angry or feel left out. Why not as "Bob" or "Suzie" walks past your seat, stand up and say hello to them, shake their hand and wish them a good day - now there's something different and I bet it would make you sensitive types feel all warm and fuzzy, in fact, would bet more warm and fuzzy than if they said hello to you first...

Anyway, I know you are all wondering if they did bring out more smoked salmon - the answer is yes and it was nice.
