You had to do a bit more than that. They posted a video sometime back on how to enable notifications. Just as a reference point, I totally missed one of them (ie not a single hint of it) so it seems even that was only partially effective.

Honestly my interest only piqued when the massive meltdown happened the first time and I wanted to see how it would be fixed.. having seen how they approached it, it worked but it was gameable and I'm sure some people did exactly that. For a chance at a grand prize of a domestic economy one way flight voucher I have to be honest I'm still not convinced it would have been worth the time invested by anyone who did so but others may see it very differently and I respect that too.

I realized just under 2 weeks ago that these were not being random times but a weeknight around 6pm or a bit after.

I would try to login my account into the redemption store if possible a bit before 6pm if I was around the computer anyway (on maybe 2 weeknights a week) and basically just refresh the https://shop.velocityfrequentflyer.com/1pointrewards page every few minutes on a spare monitor whilst I worked on other unrelated things on my main screen. ie: I wasn't just wasting my time camping on the site and doing nothing else like I suspect some people did

I was lucky last night that I was in the queue just before the instagram post went up, by <2 minutes. Still spent around 8 or 9 minutes in the queue before I was able to select a reward.

There was return economy flights to Vanuatu for 4 people but the checkout cart would error so gave up on that and realised better to focus on something less desirable, was happy with airpods that I managed to successfully check out for 1 point.

Manage to get to the store last week also with similar strategy but a variety of checkout errors before you would get item out of stock message on anything decent and just basic items left over I passed on for anyone that actually wanted a cookbook etc.

Should have done a screen recording so I could get some screenshots out of it - but always get those ideas post haste.

Glad to have got the airpods. I don't think anyone that entered the site after/from instagram story would have ever stood a chance getting anything other than maybe the first night of the new relaunched queued system.

Redeemed my one velocity point domestic flight today. It’s a bit painful as it’s done via email.
However, the certificate has blackout dates in the T@C’s and some other stuff. Turns out it doesn’t matter as long as there is an economy reward seat available they’ll redeem.

Just about to do this and was wondering how it works.
So, just to confirm if a velocity reward seat is available, the flight can be redeemed using the flight certificate as well?

Yes. You just e-mail them saying I want a flight on VA123 going A-B on April 24 2023

Was able to book my 1 point flight today - all it took was an email with the certificate attached with passenger details and the flight you wanted to book. Ironically I am using my 1 point flight to position myself for a Qantas status run. oops.
