In regards to the airport train, with that many people it will highly likely be cheaper to get a maxi taxi, or even 2 regular taxis.

$69 for the group versus $51 for a taxi - if you get an honest driver.

Why isn't the Novotel suitable? I would just book one room for one family. No reason why you can't have "guests" visit you, they won't be sleeping there. There' a pool, room service, showers etc.

Agree 100%. A hotel in this situation is most likely the best option. Saves mucking around with luggage lockers and what not. You can still go to the movies too if you want, whilst others could relax in the room or go shopping etc.

No train station, expensive, and very hard to get a taxi to the airport after 8 PM, as no one wants the short trip. It's around $300 a night.

Apart from the number of people you are trying to get into the Qantas Club, bear in mind if your flight does not have a QF prefix, you won't be admitted. We booked a 'Qantas' flight to Vanuatu but it was a code share and our ticket had an Air Vanuatu prefix on it, not Qantas and we (along with quite a few other passengers) were not allowed in.

You need to be on a QF flight number, not a QF flight (of which none go to NAN), the ticket will have FJxx_ and on the bottom it will say sold as QFxx_.

There will be no access at NAN regardless of which flight number for QP members, only J and status pax have access.

no cabs after 8pm ..I disagree. Yellow cabs will definitely do the job regardless of the distance. Novotel will further assist pax with this one.
A$300.00 at a novotel for a few hours is high but then the pax can book something at Holiday inn Roma street where they arrive and take a cab from there just in time to get the flight.

As others have already mentioned, it would be very difficult to gather up enough QP invites for your party and the Novotel is rather expensive. There is a Brisbane public bus 308 service which runs from Toombul Interchange (buses and train) to Airport Village where the hotel is located, as well as a free Airport Village to International and Domestic terminal shuttle service, but since you are arriving into Brisbane rather late these services would be winding up for the day.

Personally, i think booking a hotel in Brisbane is rather unnecessary and would instead spend the rest of the day around Southbank. Take the train one or two stops from Roma St station to South Brisbane or Southbank station (last time I was on a Sunlander we had free travel to anywhere on the QR CityTrain network on the same day of travel but if this is still the case I doubt it would apply to the airport line as its a private line).

Leave your luggage behind at a hire locker at either Roma St station or Stanley St Plaza in Southbank. If you get in early enough you might even want to take your kids for a swim at Southbank beach. Think the beach closes around 5 or 6pm this time of year. There are shower facilities at Stanley St Plaza for you to use. You can charge mobile phones, laptops etc at the State Library (closes 8pm Mon to Thurs). Have some dinner, drinks, wander around the parklands etc then make your way back to International Terminal on the Airtrain. The last Airtrain leaves South Brisbane at 9:01pm and arrives at International Terminal at about 9:30pm which should be well within your 3hr checkin window. Alternatively, a maxicab should cost about $57 from Southbank. With the money you save not having to book a hotel, you might even want to treat yourselves to a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane.

Of course, if you prefer the comfort of having a hotel room then by all means consider that too.

Kids travel free on the Airtrain. So its 5 adults x $15.50 = $77.50.

This is still cheaper than hiring 2 regular taxis but is a little bit more expensive than hiring a maxi taxi (if you can find one).

Also, the 10% discount for buying Airtrain tickets online is only available if your journey starts from the Airport. Since the OP is coming from Roma St it will be full adult price.
