Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Re: 280K One world around world - please explain

It's much easier and quicker to search for the awards yourself and feed them to the QF agent.
If you want to pay for those sites then yes they are excellent. Note that KVS isn't Mac friendly at all.
My favourite of the three is Award Nexus and I set up automatic searches on it. I'm time poor and prefer the quick searching and results I get from Award Nexus. I also have the other two but use Expert Flyer mainly for seat alerts, seat maps and upgrade chances and I've never really got to grips with KVS Tool as its way too geeky looking as well as Mac unfriendly.
All of the functionality of these paid sites regarding award searches is available free. All they do is trawl existing award searches on multiple carriers.
Free searches for One World airlines can be done most effectively via BA and Asia Miles IME.

Hi P'Fiona. I had some free points for Award Nexus and managed to do a 4 day sweep, just proving what I found by manually trawling through QF. Award Nexus not difficult. Now we are finally getting some time, we are putting together a spread sheet of trips. More so that we can work out the dates when seats come free and make sure we are not traveling to book them early when "just" released. Is there a magical date and time for seat releases? e.g.. If I am waiting for 2 x J seats 16/12/2016, BNE-DXB, 2 x J seats 30/12/2016 DXB-BNE I would need to contact QF 2 times on what dates/times?

Do you think being Plat helps with getting seats? and even though the J seats are not displayed, does this mean QF staff may have some they can release from the non public display list? Also, we noticed that the EK A380 in/out of Brisbane seems a no go for award J, as the planner always brings up the EK 777 out of BNE at 5 am....Anyway, patience is a virture.

Re: 280K One world around world - please explain

It just needs to be part of an international ticket :-)

Not quite, it can only be used on tickets issued by QF where you aren't using QF for transpacific. If you are using QF for transpacific, then it doesn't matter who issues the ticket for award purposes. For commercial tickets, a QF or AA transpacific segment is required in the ticket at all times.

I had similar issues when I flew QF SYD to DFW and then AA from there. I wanted to use the QF flight JFK-LAX, but was told by QF because I had not flown into/out of either of these ports from Australia, I could not simply use the QF JFK-LAX as a domestic. It had to be connected to an international connecting leg.

Just seen on Head for Points that IB are introducing a three times a week MAD-JNB service that will have lower taxes than BA's LHR-JNB
Searching on oneworld flights, there's no direct MAD-JNB service up to one year out.

I'm very confused. Does this vary for paid tickets?

Re: 280K One world around world - please explain

Paid tickets = commercial tickets
Unless your paid ticket is a trade/ staff ticket

To clarify:

Revenue tickets break down into two ticket types:

Commercial ticket = paid wholly in money tickets
Award tickets = paid in points + co-pay

Non-revenue tickets are ID, AD, ZED etc. fares. These include industry/agent discount travel.

Re: 280K One world around world - please explain

Apologies if this has been asked before. I have enough points for myself and my wife to book a OWA, but I also have 2 kids and nowhere near enough points to cover their travel. For a trip the length I'm thinking of, leaving the kids with grandparents etc. isn't an option. Is it possible to book 2 OWA fares, then pay cash for the kids?
If it is possible, is there a way to do this in the online booking engine and check how much the kids fares would be, or possible only by phone?

I'm thinking even though they may get a 25% discount this will still come to a pretty high cost regardless, and should maybe just look at a shorter OWA trip where we may not take the kids at all.

What age are the kids? We took our 7 yo daughter and 12 yo son on a 5 week trip. The trip confirmed our daughter hated travel, while our son, loved it and now travels at every opportunity.

You would have to purchase a OW explorer fare for the kids, however note that it will have different conditions and requirements to the award fare, and may not be able to be booked without an adult in the booking, but YMMV.

I would be booking the revenue fare for yourself to get the status credits, then let the OH and a kid take the award points.

Re: 280K One world around world - please explain

Hi all,

Just want to see if this conspiracy theory has any substance\pattern with other people.
Today I was searching for a Classic rewards seat and noticed Points and Pay and attempted to use it.
To my surprise I found another route not shown in Classic rewards but the Points and Pay were more.
I printed it out (before booking)and rang Qantas, gave QFF number and waiting call back....

Before QFF call back, I logged in to book flight I found using points and pay and it's only showing $$$$ amounts and no Points and Pay?
Do you think the QFF system has deleted the flight points and pay option I was searching and does this occur regularly?
Before it showed No Seats on other flights, now its only showing the $ amount in all areas and no points pay option?
I tried another computer and same info appearing?
Is it because it was after 1630hrs?
Is it because the points and pay option no longer exists?
Is it because I called Qantas and gave QFF number and their computer system searched my viewing history and removed potential to use feature on the flight I was looking at?

Edit: Bloody call back went to voice mail when I was speaking to Virgin and now closed ahhhhhhh!!!!

Regards

I checked flight about 6 times.... Still not sure if QFF computer killed offer or someone real actually booked it :(.... Other flights available earlier but cost more pay same points(flying out of Sydney instead of Melbourne) even though a shorter connecting flight from origin?

I doubt QF care enough to have a conspiracy against you. What would they gain? Anyway, their computer probably just has a gremlin.

But what does your issue have to do with a OW award?

Righto, makes sense. Just thought you might have been trying to use pts plus pay for a OW award.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all, I booked my RTW trip for May next year back in July and one of my segments have changed drastically where I now won't make the connecting flight. Old flight had me arriving in Dallas at midday and departing at 6:45pm, now my flight to Dallas has been moved to the later flight as the earlier one is cancelled and I now don't arrive until after 7pm. Does anyone know what options I have with regards to working out a new route? Can I only pick flights that have award availability, or would they be able to move me to any other flights (different routes etc) due to it being their change that caused the schedule conflict? Cheers.

Hi this happened to one of our flights as well. You have two options. They find an alternative flight or you try and find another which you will be happy with.We did the latter.Make sure they dont charge any service fees.

Hi We have booked a RTW J class and have the following at the moment :
MELB-HKG CX
HKG-DXB CX
DXB-LHR QF1
Today I found avaibility with QF MELB-SYD-DXB(qf1) and all J class so I rang to change it but they told me I couldnt because it was against IATA rules unless we went SYD TO DXB in economy and then J class to LHR.Is this correct? He also told me he couldnt see any J class seats but Im seeing it on the BA site.
Should I try and speak to another Qf consultant.
Thanks in advance

QF uses married segment control now, so you'd need availability for MEL/LHR, not just MEL/DXB.
