Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I have just had a pleasant diversion from my day around Aarhus and Billund on google. :)

The oldest art gallery in Denmark, 157 years old. Where is the old part? That doughnut skylounge offers a fantastic view of the city. Thinking now flying to AMS (A350) and hiring a car to drive up via Bremen, Hamburg and into Denmark. Wasn't planning a trip. ;)

That's a lovely journey that one, I have a big soft spot for Bremen. I booked a 36 quid day trip to Bremen last year - planned nothing and it just happened that it was Carnivale the Saturday I went. I also had Black Forest Cake and coffee in Bremen's oldest cafe (about 200 years old). Hamburg has an amazing atmosphere and the coolest model train museum i have seen, including an operating airport. Copenhagen has a brilliant Islamic art museum and amazing food.

As Oscar Wilde said, 'I can resist everything except temptation'.

This is my last OT post so apologies in advance. If you like museums then on the way up from AMS you would stop at Hoorn for the VOC maritime museum. Spend a couple of nights in Friesland stopping at Leeuwarden and Dokkum (stay in a farm B&B - this is a good one Bed and Breakfast Friesland), onwards to Groningen, 1hr to next stop either Pappenburg where they build the cruise ships or Oldenburg for the night,Bremen, Hamburg etc.

Hi,

is this thread applicable/relevant to people who might be doing a RTW, DONE6, etc, but are NOT planning on using any/many points, because said person only has about 6000 points and no SC's anywhere - that i know of....

thanks in advance.

No bigal0, the whole thread is centred around the use of points for booking RTW reward flights. Suggest you use the search function for DONE fares

This thread is about booking a distance based oneworld award (up to 35k miles) and not necessarily going RTW.

As an NB with QF at the moment, having a lot of trouble getting Y availability on the CX direct from BNE to HKG (J or F available regardless of dates). Plenty of BNE-SYD-HKG available, with the SYD-HKG on CX in Y. These Y seats on CX from BNE highly sought after?

Evening all,

I'm still in early stages of planning a 280K RTW. Just to make it even more difficult, I thought I'd also try to get the best in air experiences as well.

Is there a post in here that ranks the one world carriers? Or ideally, what airlines/aircraft would you recommend for J class?
EG, The new QF A330 business is looking pretty good. I take it the EK A380 is another one not to miss. What about a 787 experience?

EK isn't One World.
Can book it with QF points, but not as part of a 280k

Firstly, EK is not a OW airline - so you can't include them in a 280K award.
Secondly, airlines often service individual routes with different aircraft types so just because it's showing as a particular type when you book doesn't mean that's definitely what you'll get.
It's worth trying an A380 and definitely a 787. The J product is good on QR and CX and better than QF. IMO AA and IB are good for long haul but only average for short haul. Avoid BA if the J experience matters to you.
Suggest you do a search of the threads because AFF has lots of info about the merits of various airlines and aircraft.

I would definitely recommend QR and the CX in that order.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Has anyone run into the problem of CX award availability showing on the QF website (and double checked on BA's) — but when I ring up QF they are adamant that it is unavailable? Damn frustrating after building a perfect itinerary and being on hold for an hour!

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I've trawled through some of the history in this thread without any luck.

Slightly OT question but....

Is there an equivalent award through velocity or SQ?

Yes SQ has one.

With Round The World Awards, you can travel around the world with the
flexibility of multiple stopovers. Circle the globe and visit up to seven cities
of your choice for just 180,000 KrisFlyer miles in Economy Class, 240,000
KrisFlyer miles in Business Class and 360,000 KrisFlyer miles in First Class.

So would require 324k Velocity points vs. the 280k QF points, but it allows 2 extra stopovers.

You don't say which CX routes you're trying for but if you're trying to book CX flights through HKG some of their flight combos get blocked if you are only transiting HKG rather than staying more than 24 hrs.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Cheers vetrade.

Im trying to do:
CBR-ADL (QF)
ADL-HKG (CX)
HKG to Europe (there's supposedly at least 2 Business seats on CX on all of LHR/LGW/DUS/AMS/FRA/ZRH, but Qantas' website won't play for any of them)
CDG-JFK (AA)
JFK-ZRH-HKG-MEL (CX)
MEL-CBR (QF)

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

A bit odd, kewpid, that QF can't find you seats to any of those European destinations. When you get odd info from the QF call centre there's standard advice here to HUACA aka "hang up and call again". It's surprising how much difference another operator can make sometimes.

Are you intending to have a stopover in HKG on your way to Europe? If you are then there really isn't any good reason why QF can't see the availability you have seen online.

Are you having trouble with availability for the CX JFK - MEL flights too?
