Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Well 2hours on hold - while at the same time trying to resolve it through webchat.
No resolution - they seem to be unable to see the same eticket that they have sent. Even after asking them to resend it.

I gave up -

Maybe it will resolve itself when I make the next changes

So I gave up.
But an hour later I get a phone call -"yes we can see that you have been overcharged. We will be refunding $166.00 to your card."

Sometimes persistence pays..

I'm in the process of planning 2 J class awards at the moment for September 2018. I know I can't book that far in advance but I've been keeping an eye on availability of flights we want to try and get an idea of when it appears and disappears. Does anyone have experience booking LAX-LIM and LIM-JFK? Availability seems so sporadic for all dates, is it really popular or is there just not much made available?

I'd been looking at MIA but not the other 2, thanks for that. Still looks a but hit and miss but hopefully we'll be able to work something out.

I don't have the oneworld map up at the moment but I'd also be looking at LAX-GRU-LIM, as well as other options ex-DFW and MIA to another South American city first (eg. EZE or SCL).

Starting to plan our family (2a 2c) rtw trip in Y. Cant book until next year yet but trying figure out rough itinerary first. Have just spent hours reading though this thread and playing on the oneworld website and the Qantas multitrip site too.
I must have missed something though or maybe just read to much and confused myself, as both times my itinerary wont work hoping someone could give advice as to why. I'm sure its something simple.....
ADL-DOH transit
DOH-CPT- stop
CPT-LHR- stop
Paris - Naples - stop
Berlin- Oslo - stop
Olso - Athens - stop
Athens - Adelaide
Is this doable? When I tried to do this via the multi city tool on Qantas website my points total jumped above after choosing the oslo to Athens stop. Why would this be? Oneworld said it was because I was not going in a continuous route and that I couldn't backtrack through the same continent or something along those lines.
Also does it matter how many times you fly with the same carrier as a lot of the flights when doing a test via the Qantas website are with BA.
Thankyou for any help/advice re the itinerary.

Try to call Qantas FF team, they will help you.. I think web tools are not liked to all the sites and also Qantas staff got better access to seats than any one else..

It would help if you posted a little more detail. Break down every single flight and which carrier each is with. A few of your flights aren't serviced by a OneWorld airline directly (Paris-Naples, Berlin-Oslo, Athens-Adelaide) etc. Without being able to see the full breakdown of your itinerary, I can only speculate that you're either 1) booking with a non-Oneworld airline or 2) you're transiting via LHR more than twice, either of which will break the fare rules.

To answer your question regarding number of carriers: You need to travel with at least 2 carriers other than QF. Provided you satisfy this criteria and all carriers are part of OneWorld you should be fine.

Fairbasa thankyou the problem is transiting through LHR more then twice, as the Paris-napleas was via LHR so was berlin-oslo and oslo-athens. I know there was a flight with finair on the oslo-athens route but had no availability for my dates I tested so if when I'm ready to book if I can get a finair flight via Hilenski then that shouldn't break the rules right?

That should be fine. You can have a 1x Stop + 2x Transits in LHR. If you can't get availability on the Finnair leg, you could look at flying Paris to Naples or Berlin to Oslo on a separate revenue booking - you may be able to go direct that way and save some time.

Good luck and let us know how you go!

I'm trying to help a friend with a OneWorld Award Itinerary.
She has an existing Itinerary, and wants to add an ATL-LAX sector, on 5 Jun 2018.
I'm guessing that the only valid OneWorld carrier is AA.
I believe that AA releases award seats at 330 days out (and 5 June 2018 is 328 days).

I've searched via AA Advantage, JAL & BA sites, and there are no (OneWorld) award seats on this sector for the desired date, nor for ANY date in the 2 months prior (except for a couple of 1 stop hops via MIA or similar).

It looks to me as if AA might not make ANY direct seats available to the OneWorld pool for this sector.
Does anyone have any knowledge to share?
Am I chasing a unicorn?
Should my friend just buy a paid ticket for this sector instead?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom available.
J

I don't know that route specifically, but AA are not as predictable as QF with when they release inventory.

Even though they *can* release inventory 330 days before, I found on the routes I monitored they released the first batch of seats 9-10 months out, another batch about 6 months out and will probably release a last batch not long before the flight. It's up to the revenue managers.

I would suggest you sign up for Expert Flyer to get an alert when the seats are released. Otherwise, I'm sure some (including myself) on this forum would be happy to setup an alert for you.

I had a quick look through April 2018 next year and could only find availability via DFW, ORD & CLT on a few random dates - Nothing direct.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've taken your suggestion to sign up for Expert Flyer, and set an alert. Currently there are plenty of available seats, so we can afford to be patient for a while and hope for some award seats to be released.
Fingers crossed.

Not that it would make much difference, but AA opens at 331 days.

They seem to be as rare as hens teeth. Would be interested if any WPs can request seats be opened
